FWIW, the quote I got from a local high-volume axle shop to re-gear the 10.25 rear from 4.10 to 3.55 on my truck was roughly $800 out the door.

Holy cow I did my D50 first time ever setting up gears which is much more labor than a 10.25... the bill for that would have been near $2,000 if an easy one is $800!

Just a small update here. Since I REALLY hate all the BS that's going on in the country right now, I decided to push back a little bit and bought some new fender badges for the old girl. It took them a long time to get here, but since they came from China, I'm guessing that they were sitting sideways in the Suez Canal for a while. Surprisingly, they are real metal, not plastic. They're probably pot metal, but it should still last longer than plastic.

A little bit of background. I started wanting a crew cab dually in 1992. I've never searched terribly hard for one although I did have a lead or two over the years. In 2008, about a month since I took my last ride in my first F250 with a IDI (pictured below), I happened to see the top of a crew cab Ford sticking above the weeds at a farm about 8 or 9 miles north of where I was living at the time. I found out who lived there, then I got his phone number. Yes it was for sale, and he agreed to show me the truck. I went to look at it and didn't have any way to come up with the money for it so I let it stay there. In 2016, I had moved away, but I came back for a neighbor's funeral. I rode to the funeral with a friend. On the way back to his house, he wanted to go look at a pasture that belongs to one of his uncles. We happened to drive by the farm where this truck was still sitting. That got me a little bit worked up about it again. A few months later, I moved back into the area, only 15 miles to the east. This same friend and I decided that we were going to sell firewood to come up with some extra money. Of course I was going to use this as a way to get the money to buy the truck that I had looked at 8 1/2 years earlier. He ended up having a massive stroke at the age of 35 (he's still alive and doing pretty well considering everything) so that plan fell through. Then, thanks to Covid 19, I had some extra money this year so I decided to try to buy this truck again since it was still sitting there 12 years later. Since I'm making this thread about it, I did get it bought.

I don’t know why I just noticed this but that bullnose was probably a looker before all that happened. I absolutely love that color

She was. It was in really good shape except for the passenger's side door that got damaged when the tire blew out right in front of it. The Ford emblem without a cover in the grille and the broken place in the grille were both from hitting a deer. It looked better than my Blue Truck, but mechanically, the Blue Truck's better by far. She even looked good with some icing on the cake. I don't have many pictures of her, but here's a few. Don't ask why I seemed to always take pictures from the passenger's side.

I got another small step close today. I got my universal intercooler piping in (the intercooler is supposed to be here Monday, but since it's being sent on Fed Ex, I'm not holding my breath). The intercooler outlet and inlet are both 3". I decided to go with 3" piping. Some to match the intercooler, but mostly to increase the internal volume of the whole system to hold the total boos pressure down somewhat. Since I'm going to be running this 6.9 for a while, I'm trying to hold back some on the boost while still getting as much as possible. Counterintuitive? Maybe a little, but I also want to keep this engine together until I eventually get a 7.3 built up to go in this truck.

Naturally, the drama started pretty quickly. I had just cut the plastic straps holding the intercooler box together when this happened. Some days I can really understand how Rodney Dangerfield felt. That last bit was just for those of us who are old enough to understand the reference.:Thumbs Up:joker:

Well I was kicking the idea around for a while, but I went ahead and spent the money. She'll have a bit of an Australian accent when I get done with her.
