After three weekends of waiting for my friend to borrow my trailer, I got tired of waiting so I got to work on this today. Step #1: Clean out as much of the mouse crap as possible!!! I pulled the interior pieces and all of the parts that were inside the cab back out into the daylight again and put it all on my trailer to have it somewhere easy to move around. That's why I was holding off until my friend borrowed the trailer. I found a couple of things that I hadn't posted about yet. I bought a couple of tire pressure equalizers and a pry bar with a hook on the end so that I could FINALLY remove the rusted on centers of the simulators. The easy part ended here.

The next step is to remove the dash to get it clean on the back side. Naturally, the ignition switch broke as I was lowering the steering column. I had to fight and fight, but i finally got the steering column out (stupid automatic transmission steering columns!). I decided that was good enough for one day. The last I knew, it was 100* at 4:00 and the wind had died down by this time. After playing around inside the cab for a couple of hours, I've decided that I'm NOT ever going to pull a car/truck out of a field, pasture, the trees, or the weeds and try to fix it up. I've already had too much of the mouse smell and I still have a LONG ways to go.

I put the trim pieces that I've removed and seat belts in the box that the new front fuel tank came in for easy storage and moving around. I put a tarp over the seats and smaller parts and then tied it down with a couple of ratchet straps. I set the fenders on the back of the trailer, tied them down, and parked the trailer back out behind my garage. Hopefully, I'll be able to get the dash, the rest of the trim pieces, and the head liner out tomorrow. The next door neighbor is going to let me borrow his water since I don't have any at my garage. I'll first blow out everything that I can with air, then I'll use the hose and a scrub brush to get as much mouse crap out that I possible can.

First off, it was 103* today at 4:00 when I got off work and I really debated on staying home. I didn't and I'm glad that I didn't. Since there was very little breeze, I sat a fan up in the shadow of the Blue Truck to blow air into the Ex Wife. It sure helped. I found out that mice had been chewing on the trim piece between the driver's door and the rear door. My finger is pointing to the spot. Those little bee-stards have no respect for anything! I did get the dash out. Looking at the last picture, I'm betting that it won't be very hard to put the ZF5 pedals in there at this point. Tomorrow, I have to remove a few more trim pieces, the duct work and the insulation on the fire wall, the sun visors, dome light, and the headliner. Then I'll finally get to wash out the inside of the cab.

Boy I'd want to look that dash harness over reaaallly good while it's out and easily accessible. Never know what they might have gnawed on.

I'll probably end up switching to the one out of the 88 Treasure Hunt truck. I want power windows and this one doesn't have them. Yes, I will have to look at all of the wiring closely.

Yesterday the humidity was WAY too high so I didn't do anything to the truck. Believe me, I just can't function in the high humidity anymore. Today, I was back at it. I got the duct work off of the inside of the firewall, I pulled the insulation off, removed the pedals, got the rest of the trim out and wiggled the headliner out. Then I blew out as much of the remaining mouse nest as I could with compressed air. After that, she got her first interior wash and that made me feel really good. I'm planning to do a better one tomorrow after I remove the door panels. I'm going to squirt everything down with Simple Green and hit as much as I can with a scrub brush before rinsing it with water. Some where, between the tossing parts out onto the ground, the mouse smell, and the occasional four letter word thrown in, I realized that I was really enjoying this part. I didn't think that I would, but I sure was wrong.

The headliner is going to need some attention. There's some holes in the cover material, but there's also a couple of holes in the back side too. The one on the left is definitely from mice, but the one on the right may be from the old style of CB antenna that goes through a hole in the roof. It was removed and the hole is still open. I plan to glue some cardboard in the holes to support the cover material. I'm going to need another front, passenger's side seat belt. It looks like the mice got to this one. Finally, a picture that made me smile even though there's a puddle of water standing on the floor on the driver's side.

Today I pulled the door panels off and gave her a second interior scrubbing. There was a few pieces of insulation that hadn't wanted to come out yesterday. I scraped at them with a paint scraper. I sprayed some Simple Green on the worst places and scrubbed them with a scrub brush before turning on the hoes. Then I scrubbed those places again as I was washing the cab. I didn't use the scrub brush inside the doors, but I did run the hose inside them until all of the water came out clear. As I was doing this, a small cloud came close by. For no bigger than it was, there sure was a lot of thunder. The closer it got, the farther north it drifted so I didn't pay much attention. The picture of the storm is looking about perfectly north west. The best part of the day is described in my next post. Tomorrow it's back to the Blue Truck.

The best part of the day was when I got some "purdies" in. These look so good that I HAD to set them in place to take pictures. I sure am glad that I bought them.

Yes they do. The best part is that you don't to worry about them rusting since they're stainless.
