I was just wondering and being a little smart aleky at the same time. You know that there's SOMEONE out there who would want to do it.

Hey wes on the 38 gal tank. Is that AN fitting on top the tank for the vent line?

It’s a -12 or -16 rollover valve I’m using for the vent, with it circulating a lot of fuel I want to be sure it’s not going to have any issues with venting, but wanted to keep the safety features of the stock vent valve. I believe vibrant makes this one.

I’m going to see if I can fit a small filter right off the top of the tank below the bed, if not I’ll just plug that hole and hole saw a hole next to the fill port and run a braided line down the frame to a filter. I want to keep it separate from the neck so it fills up quicker.

I just read through this entire thread (sorry productivity!).

I'm only here to say: This. Is. Awesome.

Doing research, as recent as 2012, 2014, the general internet consensus is that the IDI is a reliable but slow pig and would never be considered for a race application. And here is Wes, easily pushing 300hp with hardly any mods, and way beyond now. Seriously, search 300hp IDI, and all you get are naysayers talking about cummins swaps.

Thinking about doing an IDI swap into an older vehicle myself, and Ive just gotta say, this thread has me all kinds of jazzed to get working on it!

Thanks Wes!

I'm just waiting for more info on the hybrid injectors idea. I feel like that could be the secret to bigger power numbers with your current set up. Well probably not a N/A set up.

Thanks guys, just sharing my shenanigans. I miss the truck quite a bit, it’s been down eight months now from being a daily driven truck basically since it’s been new, so it’s a shame to see it sit but with how crazy of a year it’s been and with purchasing the fuel shop on top of all of it, I haven’t had any time to do anything with it. Still haven’t pulled the windowed block to see what the prognosis is. I did acquire a donor idit awhile back I bought mostly for the low mile factory turbo kit but haven’t really looked inside it yet. I’m hoping to catch up on things now that I have the fuel shop running in house, and can get the truck back running this fall to start doing some testing with some new fuel parts like Jeremy had mentioned, and hopefully push the platform to new places.

I’ve continued doing testing with some local trucks, one crew cab bullnose is actually running the shop trucks pump on a sealed completely stock factory na engine, with a hmax turbo kit running a t4 s257 and intercooler setup.

It’s making 22 psi with that setup without studs with the pump turned down to a 110cc spec. I’m hoping to get it on the dyno soon and try to break 300hp on a stock na engine, it should be able to do it at 110cc since we have already made 250hp out of maxing the stock pump, but we can always turn the shop trucks pump back up if needed.

I’m planning to start from scratch on the new engine for the the shop truck and replace the turbo and intercooler setup completely. I want to be able to remove the turbo and injectors easier, and be able to run different flange turbos, so I’m planning on running a new 093 crossover from Russ, and using an 088 up pipe section with a v band attached at the top so the top fabricated part of the piping that bolts to a pedestal so I can basically use different top sections to test different turbo configurations. Since I already have it, I’m going to run the GT4598 as a single on this engine, it’ll supply plenty of air for my goals on its own and making less power in lower rpms I think will really help this engine last, but it’s pretty big for a single. I don’t think I’ll run an intercooler with it, but I may add one later on. Just want to focus on setting it up simple at first.

Further parting out the poor shop truck today, stealing the injectors and turbo off it for cores found something interesting. If y’all look back to when this past na engine failed a rod ejected at on the driver side #6 hole. Pulling the driver side injectors #2 came out clean but 6 and 8 are covered in oil/coolant milkshake.

Left side is 2 going up to 8 on the right side.

This is intriguing to me and got me thinking, with past rod failures I have not seen this so I believe the cylinder wall may have failed along with the rod, or vice versa, or possibly another piston failure or a wrist pin issue. It will be interesting to eventually pull the engine and determine the failure, just don’t have any time for my projects right now. I did pop these injectors after cleaning them up and they all pop nicely at the pressure I originally set them (these were the used bb codes that came from the donor engine) so it wasn’t an injector failure.

Well nothing with my projects lately, but I still have a blast seeing customer projects coming together just as much as building my own trucks, and pushing the limits with the fuel parts has been really rewarding, still plenty of fun being had, just more on my plate than there used to be.
