On the way home, I hit another pheasant. This time it was in my F150 and it was a couple of feet higher so it hit just about perfectly in the middle of the windshield. No broken headlight this time!
The windshield has been cracked since I bought the truck in August 2011. I believe that I'm really starting to hate pheasants though.

It started snowing before I left work. I went to another town to go grocery shopping. While I was there, the snow really picked up. There was at least an inch of snow on top of the slush on the ground by the time I was heading home. IOt was dark and I was in no hurry so I just left it in 4th gear and was going along about 45MPH. That was fine until I started getting into the steep hills on the way home. I would run up to 50 going down hill and let up to about 35 going up the next hill and was still spinning the back tires. After I almost ended up sideways in the highway, I gave up and got out to lock in the hubs. i was able to go 50 for the rest of the way home with no problems (of course). So I guess that I got to use the transfer case for something other than backing up with or to a trailer. I suppose that's what it was made for. It sounds funny, but I hardly ever use 4x4 at all. It's just REALLY nice to have when I need it.

The wife wanted to go for a drive and all I can say is I'm glad I have tire chains I got stuck and slid I to a tree and broke a tail light out 
but I got creative with the chainsaw and cut .A new path to the road but before I cut the new road a few guys with Polaris rzr stopped and thaught they could pull me out lol we spent 20 min getting them out of the way but all said and done all 4 chained new road I pushed through over 2 foot of snow and only suffered the tail lightsquare1

Made a commitment to her. Was toying with the idea of going new and paying it off by retirement time. Can't get half the truck she's going to be after I invest a couple few thousand $$ in her though. Over the next couple years she gets some love & will be my daily driver when I retire.
This weekend I finished up rebuilding and installing a winch.
Next up new headlamps.

It's a Ramsey S2001 (predessor to tbe RE-8000 / 8,000 # capacity) worm gear, power in / power out with a free spool clutch.
It came welded to an 18' trailer I bought used a few years back. It was quite a mess and had been sitting in the project area of the garage.
New motor, seals / gaskets, oil / lube (with new zerk fittings / crankcase vents), cable, solenoids, remote controller, some paint, plus some fab work to mount it.
Some history I found says it was the winch installed on 1982 Jeep CJ-7s as part of the "Jambo" accessory package.
It's a beast weighing in at between 125~150 pounds all together.

Today I put the trash out, and took the dog for a half-mile ride (he insists on it when he sees me grab the trash bags) 
Then I looked under the hood and decided that turbo installation can wait for better weather! It's really cramped back there.

Bought another idi today. 92 f350 cclb 7.3 zf5 4x4. Runs and drives and is pretty clean for $775. I’ll have pictures and a thread for it tomorrow

I’m pretty happy with the price. Dana 60 would sell for more than what I paid for the truck, and the zf shifts great. It’s na, which I can fix later down the road, but it will give me a good platform to build some parts to support the guys that just want to get a bit more pep out of their na engines without investing in a turbo.
