New tach sensor is installed. I'm not 100% sure that was the culprit now though. When the GP's are doing their afterglow, the tach is slow to come off idle when you blip the throttle. The last one was doing that too, but that one day it was also reading 0 RPM until the engine crossed ~800-1k RPM, so who knows. We'll see how it works tomorrow morning when it's cold and angry :D

Also, related: do not buy the sender from Ford. That was a rookie move on my part. They charged me $135 after tax, when I got home I looked on Amazon and it was $65. FU Ford :frustrate

This is NOT about my diesel, but it is about a truck of mine. My 1981 F150 with a 302 needed an oil change BADLY. Today was the nicest weekend day without a lot of wind for a while (I think it got up to about 36 or so) and I knew that I'd better get it done before winter really sets in. I knew that a high beam was out in one of my headlights and I had already ordered a new pair of projector beam headlights and a relay wiring harness from LMC truck. They were in the back of my diesel, ready to be installed. I changed the oil, and installed the new headlights and wiring harness. It only took me about 1 1/2 hours to do it. I was happy enough about the short time that it took me to do this that I decided to take an ATV ride for a little bit over an hour.

I had to take the Logger to work yesterday to tow my company truck back to the shop. While at work, I decided to upgrade my LED reverse lights. I now have 4 twenty seven watt cubes and can see very well in reverse.

While installing them, I noticed a broken spring hangar so I ordered up a new set.

Made the trip without issue.

By the way, the PSD has 496,000 miles on it, original injectors and turbo still in service. The bearings blew out of the AC compressor which was replaced 3 months ago. Not very happy about this. 6 years a perfect record of getting me to and from work reliably and a junk replacement part blew the record on me.

I didn't do a darn thing... this week I came down with either a bad cold + bronchitis, or a moderate case of the flu. Either way, the box with the pickup's new clutch set & flywheel is still sitting just inside the front door... I looked closely at the FedEx tag and it weighs 86 lbs.! I think it's going to stay right where it is for a couple more days!

Two words:

Rock Auto

If I could be a little bit helpful, when I first installed my new tach sensor it was a little funny on the first few weeks. Then it settled out and has been rock solid since. No idea why.

Bit of a story.

Yesterday my dad and kid brother (15) took the idi to a project. Last night when it was time to go home my brother was trying to turn the lights on (his first time driving the pickup) and hit the fuel tank switch by mistake. The front tank has long been deleted and so it died and they couldn't get it going, even after switching it back. Left it sit for the night and brought the other vehicle home.

Today I went out to try to get it going. Took a few tools along. First thing I did was turn the key on to make sure the Facet was running (it was). Next tried purging the air at the schrader valve and got nothing, no air, no fuel, nothing. Hmmm. Noticed that the fuel gauge was pegged full, which made me wonder if the valve was stuck. Left the key on and got under the truck with a crescent and started tapping on the FSV. Sure enough, I heard the Facet change tone and I knew something had changed. Went up front and now I had air and fuel at the Schrader. Went around and she fired up! Good to go again!

Gotta love the simplicity of the IDI.

Now to bypass the FSV with hose so this doesn't happen again. Either that or tape or glue the switch to lock it to the rear.

You can bypass it. We did have some wiring talk in some on the selector valve delete/manual selector valve threads.

Yeah I looked in the tech articles but couldn't find what I needed right off. My fuel gauge still works so I'd like to leave the switch plugged in.

Or put a tank back in it and enjoy one of the best features of our old trucks. Dual tanks and a 500 mile range between fillups!.
