    Thank you!

I’ve got the T-19 in my ‘85 6.9 F250, and picked up a ZF out of an F450 with the parking brake. Initially I was going to use it and convert to rear discs, but when I saw how steep the reverse gear is in the ZF, I realized a transfer case would give me a real nice granny reverse when I need it!

I don’t think so, you should be able to find one for pretty cheap

Yes, I feel the truck is an odball and that is fine though. Have not conteplated ever of putting a truck bed on it. But have thought about fabricating a custon utility bed for it. You're absolutely correct, the frame is very narrow along with the spring stacks. I noticed that trucks of late have much wider springs. That is the standard now I suppose.

So that s47 has a higher 1st and reverse ratio. I will stay with the s42 trans.

So does the higher number mean that 1st and reverse are lowered geared?

Higher number means a lower gear. Also if you get the zf 4x4 tranny have him put it on a skid and ship it through Fastenal. They are by far the cheapest way to ship big items as long as you don't mind picking it up at one of their stores. I just shipped a complete 6.9l from Harrisburg, PA to Texas for $300!

Tc, do you have a zf5 42 4x4 in your arsenal that you might part with? And if so how much?

Also, am looking for a spare 7.3 idi with low time (and if not low time, low abuse) that I can rebuild for an eventual swap out.

all the ones in the pic I consider "core" grade. you will need to rebuild them. i haven't put any of them through the gears while under power to say they are "good used" or needs rebuilding. the shipping will kill you as a result. To answer you question ahead of time, no I do not have the time to build a crate for it and send it through Fastenal.

I understand. This guy on craigslist has already sold the transfer case for the listed zf5 so I am weighing is it worth buying what he has and begin searching for a transfer case or just backing off and waiting for a complete tranny with transfer case. Or...... just rebuild what I have and struggle with the high geared reverse. Or rebuild my zf5 and bite the bullet and get a GV under drive/overdrive unit. Just not sold on GV's product for towing.
I have an F450 1996 14 foot flat bed with a 7.3psd with only 156k miles that I would use to trade someone for a good zf5 tranny and a spare 7.3 idi engine.
Am sold on the idi engine so may go that route.
What are your thoughts on that?
