Which valve cover gaskets from napa do you guys recommend? I see they have what looks like regular cork, or they have a blue gasket thats called perma dry or something.

Most all VC cork gaskets will leak unless they are sealed with some kind of sealer on both sides. The rubber or perma dry is a plastic rubber combination that takes a little more bolt torque, still have to have the "winged washers" to spread the bolt torque load. The pan rail has to be straighten out, not bent from the bolts.

Most gaskets with rubber seal better because the rubber swells up in the presence of the oil and makes the seal even tighter. The same thing happens with the oil filter. You tighten it by hand after the gasket touches 3/4 to 1 turn, but the next oil change you need a wrench to take it off.

I used the felpro gaskets and coated both sides with permatex ultra copper plus. Its a reddish color and smells bad. Easily removed with brakeclean too.
