I am in the process of preparing my replacement IDI motor for paint. I have removed the IP and intake. My question is... can I mount the engine on an engine stand and turn the motor upside down to better paint the underneath of it? Will the gear for the IP move and cause the engine to be out of time?
Thanks in advance.;Sweet

No. The gear will not pump timing if the motor is upside down. I did just that when my motor was on the stand to see what could happen. You even can rotate the crank and it will not change the gear timing.

Sounds good John. How did you pinion your IP gear to hold it still?

Ummmmm, I didn't. I'm not quite sure what your talking about. I have removed the IP and intake manifold, but have not yet mounted the engine on a stand. What should I have pinned?
