Here's a video of my truck cranking. VIDEO

Also got the fuel pressure gauge in there. Hard to read, but looks like it may have peaked around 3 or 4 psi.

Here's a close-up of the only part of the truck that is getting close to rusting through. The paint is bubbling up here, behind the passenger door.

That got it.;Sweet

Starter sounds like she's spinning enough rpms.

Hmmm.

I keep looking at the pic posted of the timing and think it may be off a few teeth.

The low compression numbers seen could "possibly" be cracked rings if the P.O. was trying to fire it off with ether and enabled glow plugs.:dunno

From recapping previous, what ya said it sounds like the IP is delivering fuel to the injectors and 4-5 psi should be enough supply for startup.

You have enough cylinders that have enough compression that it sould be showing some signs of life if the timing didin't get all out of whack.:dunno

to me it doesnt sound like the starter us pushing against much compression...it almost sounds like when i did a compression test and had all the flow plugs out.

Can you try to advance the timing some... I know this is asking a lot because I know you have done plenty of work but I don't recall if you have done this yet. To advance the timing you need to loosen those 3 bolts that are 9/16 hex on the injection pump side of the gear cover. Rotate the pump towards the passenger fender. Move it about 1/16 inch. That will be around 3 to 5 degrees. The motor is turning over fast enough to start with fuel at the injectors. Cranking it that much you should be able to just crack open an injector line at the injectors and hear air escaping with some fuel and air bubbles.

Not enough compression, the engine should be shaking side to side a lot more than that. I still would pull the glow plugs and put some oil squirts in there, crank it just enough to blow out the excess then put the gp.s back in and try it again, if it sounds the same, then it is valves.

i know somewere earlier in the thread it says you sprayed either in it and it didnt do anything, well its been my expierence that even if you do spray ether in one that dont have any other fuel getting injected that it will hit and sound like it wants to run but no it wont exactly fire on just ether but it should try to, and you say that it dont even try to run on ether? And if i had the money and i lived closer i would buy this truck.

EDIT: and also after watching the video that thing dont sound right at all, the compression is got to be to low on that thing

Personally, with $1100 into it, I would pull the pump & housing to get the timing gears lined up. Check the articles. My last '85 I acquired for $250 had the same type problem from my teen hurry-up 'Git-Er-Done' nephew mechanics. 180 out & would almost run after ether. Yours is probably a few teeth off with valves barely open & not hitting the pistons, causing no compression.

We're talking about the injection pump being out of time here, right? Injection pump timing doesn't affect compression. So, I guess you're saying that my valve timing might be off... that sounds like a really big can of worms for me. I think I'll leave that alone so the next guy doesn't have even more variables to consider. Thanks for your advice, though, you might be right.

Injection timing yes. If the valve train timing was of, you would have more serious problems.
