I spend the better part of my day not working on my truck, but I attempted to put new forks on my Honda 50 clone and they’re definitely wrong, and I broke some stuff on the old ones so now my little commuter is broken for a little LOL

My 83 has been parked for a few months, gave her a bath then did some mechanical stuff.

Installed a NOS Motorcraft headlight switch, instrument lense cover and new headlight pigtails..hi-low beam switch too

Found an old still in box 80’s saddleback seat cover and threw it in, trying to keep anything on the truck somewhat period correct, was happy and about to go for a cruise and she got fussy...

After that went to start it and the glow plug controller stuck on, so installed a new one...Had already done the relay and have new glow plugs, that dang controller had only lasted 4 years (20k miles).

Fuel is 6 months old and heavily treated with K80 and copious amounts of ATF, lol. Going to burn through both tanks and put fresh diesel in...prices aren’t the lowest right now for diesel though at around 2.50/gal, at least we don’t have truck payments!!
2.50 a gallon? Try 3.59:idiot:

In Southern Cal now $4.15 and up!

Reminds me of the 80's, when I lived in San Diego. Folks ran out and bought diesels (Trucks, VW's Rabbit's, MBZ's, etc.) added spare tanks in truck beds or spare tanks in car trunks. Ran to Mexico for $.50 a gallon diesel to avoid paying what I recall as $2.50-3.00 a gallon state side. Also a bonus was they all improved their MPG over their gassers. (More bang for the buck.) Folks ran them for a month and went down again to refill. Back then it was easy and quick to cross the border. But not so easy now as its 1-3 hours to get back over, diesel is now 81 peso's a gallon in Mexico ($4.00 US) , and last I heard Mexico still has high sulfur in their diesel so new vehicles running DEF cannot participate in cheaper fuel.

Then back in what seemed like 2014, gas spiked over $4.00 a gallon here in Orange County. So, a lot of folks around here ran out and bought hybrids or if feeling rich electric cars. (Ironically most kept at least one or both of their gas guzzlers. Hard to pull a boat or travel trailer with a Chevy Volt or Tesla!!!!) Just seemed odd to me you would spend $35,000 (Chevy Volt)-70,000 (On a Tesla.) to avoid paying the extra $.80-1.00 a gallon or $80 (Or less) a month.

Let’s say you filled up your gasser pickup truck or full size SUV 1 time a week. That would look like an additional perhaps $80.00 a month.

Then to somehow think you are saving more than $80 a month by taking on a new car payment of $350-700 a month. (Or pay cash, but that is not where the madness would end.)

Fast forward 9-14 months later gas drops back down to around $3 or less. But now these folks are stuck in a 3rd car, probably saw 20-25% depreciation, still have a car payment for 4-5 years, still bought gas at $4.00 a gallon for that hybrid, then additional insurance of say $700 here in Socal on a new car, $400-600 for registration on a new car, maintenance, and another $400-1,000 for a way to fast charge their hybrid or electric car at night.

So for the life of me I cannot understand the logic of how that is cheaper to spend say $500+ (All in and with depreciation.) a month for a new car just to avoid paying $80 more a month for gas for 14 months or less??????? Lets say I was very happy to just keep my vehicles pay the surcharge for 12 months, and was glad I was not paying for a 3rd car I no longer really needed.

On the bright side reminising about the 80's Mexico gas tactic makes me think I should put my 80 gallon transfer tank for my boat in my truck and see if I can find $3.00 a gallon diesel in NV between Pahrump and Las Vegas! Maybe get in some casino fun with the savings and come back with a months worth of fuel cheap fuel!!!

Only a week? Where do I sign up?! ;)

Seriously!

They started asking us every day at work if we have symptoms. I told my boss "I've had half of those symptoms every day for as long as I can remember so what do you want me to tell you" LOL

I know you guys are joking and believe me i know tired with 3 kids under 7, a 6 month old puppy and my own construction business, but this fatigue was more than that. for the first two days I could barely get out of bed. Literally walking to the couch (and we have an 900 sqft house) was exhausting. it slowly got better, and by the end of the week I was back to normal.

I don't want to keep sidetracking this thread, but I don't know where else to post it here. This seems to be the catch-all thread. LOL

Another guy has tested positive.

So, I bit the bullet. (I am the typical old guy. I HATE going to the doctor.) I made an appointment to be tested tomorrow morning.

well if you do have it, I hope it doesn't get any worse and that you are quickly on the mend.

From what I've noticed covid effects are dramatically different from one person to the next. Typically I'm the guy who never gets sick and I downplayed concerns about getting covid. Well I ate my words in Feb! Two weeks of sheer he!! If you have an opportunity to get vaccinated, my advice is get those shots asap! I'm normally healthy, take no prescription meds, I'm either mildly overweight or simply have a beer induced enlarged liver, have type "O" positive blood (just for reference that's the blood type they claimed was somewhat less likely to contract covid), and never smoked. Having said that, also know others at opposite end of the health spectrum who had nothing more than sniffles.

This is exactly what i have been saying all along. this is the weirdest disease I have ever seen. The mom of one of my coworkers lives in a nursing home, is over 90 years old, and has been on oxygen for years. They had a couple residents get covid so they tested everyone. she came up positive, but had zero symptoms. If anyone she should be at the highest risk of dying from it. Then another guy I know through acquaintances mid 50s, pretty healthy, got it and died in less than 2 weeks!! Some people get crazy symptoms others get nothing and there really doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to a lot of it. I know there are certain conditions like obesity that greatly increase your chances of a bad experience, but still its very strange.

To put it back on topic. I drove my truck for work today, like I do everyday. and every day it puts a smile on my face!

If that’s a galvanized fitting read this:

Never Use Galvanized Piping on Your Fuel Supply Line!
Diesel fuel dissolves the zinc coating and forms a solution that contaminates the fuelsupply. ... We recommend black iron, steel or copper piping and storage tanks in order to avert this.

Where you sending the return off the pump? I did a brass cross over a tee so the pump has a unrestricted flow.

Drove my truck to the covid test station.

Never got out of the truck. Test is done with you still in your vehicle.

Result was negative. No covid!

Guess now I need to start looking for someone positive, to lick a spoon for me... LOL

I really just want to get this and get over it and get on with life.

Particularly since you welded on it. Zinc is nasty when you heat it up like that. Black iron would be much better if you still want it welded on like that. You should be able to get it at a hardware store.

You could try and find some place that does the antibody test. Perhaps you had it already and didn’t realize it.

I'm pretty sure I did.(Already had it.)

Impossible to get the antibody test, just because you want it. (At least around here.) And expensive.

But if you donate blood, they test for it, for free, and let you know.

Guess what I am now scheduled to do? LOL
