Jon, you really should get a piston and rod from a Cummins and an IDI or Stroke and do a comparo picture while you have those out!!

Hard to do justice to just how massive they are. When I pulled the oilpan on mine I was amazed.

Found a couple scored main bearings. the crank is spotless though, so i'll just get a bearing kit too.

So new pistons and liners or did everything check alright?

Everything appears within spec. I took a liner and piston to a friends shop, he said by time I clean it up I'd be better off with a liner and ring kit. So I'm waiting on prices for a ring, bearing, and gasket kit.

they're pretty cheap engines to go through! I would definitely replace everything while you're in there, better safe than sorry!

All the grease....and most of the paint stripped. spent 3 hours in the hot tank while I cleaned a 5 gallon bucket (literally) full of v12 cummins head bolts on the wire wheel.

Set the crank in, need some plasti gauge to measure the crank. and have to find the specs on the clearances.

Crank is torqued, pistons are ready to go, liners are measured and dropped in! gotta get it back on the stand tomorrow.
