I have heard of people having their "oil temp" light come on when climbing long hills. Well, I live near Denver, and I need to be able to tow my Toyota crawler over I-70 to get to Moab! I am concerned about oil temp, so I figured I would through a oil temp gauge. But how hot is too hot? At what temp does the light come on?

Also, is there any after market oil coolers that do a better job than the stock one?

TIA

Oil temp lite???:dunnocookoo Who told you about that. These motors don't have any lites for oil temp but.... There is a coolant overtemp lite... It comes on at 242 degrees and usually is just about the time you ruin the motor. I ran my first rebuilt motoroil temp past 330 degrees because I lost all my coolant when a freeze plug let go that was installed wrong. Once the coolant is lost nothing is telling the temp senders whats going on. I had installedan oil temp switch in the oil pan so I could watch the temps. They usually run about 10 degrees higher than the coolant temp... Till you pull heavy or are on a grade. Then 240 to 260 are common...

The IH trucks have oil cooler lights. I remember a guy posted about his coming on, when pulling grades.

interesting, I must be special, i totally thought there was a oil temp light in the light cluster.

I have the gauge already, so no point in wasting it!

Thanks for correcting me!
