I added an additional fuel filter that allows me to reuse the engine oil filter after an oil change. After clogging a handful of the stock fuel filters on my truck I decided to add an additional filter that uses a cheaper filter do to the majority of the filtering. I cant afford an oil centrifuge at the moment nor do I have the space to set one up. Since im using wmo and I do a lot of city driving, I change my engine oil at approximately 3k miles. With the savings in fuel from wmo and my driving habits I believe it to be necessary. Generally engine oil filters do not clog when changed regularly and still have plenty of filtering capacity. So I had the idea to somehow reuse the engine oil filter to filter fuel for the truck. I found a filter head that fits our engines filters. This is where i purchased mine from, https://www.alabamaindustrialproducts.com/products/1-1-2-fnpt-stauff-filter-head-with-bypass. The part number is SSF-150-B1.7-1 and can likely be bought other places too. I use the larger powerstroke oil filters on my truck and autozone sells the stp s3786xl for around 11.99 and claims to filter down to 15 micron. That filter rating is when brand new, and as some of you may know the longer a filter is used the better it gets at filtration as it catches particles. So I believe that by the time I pull off the old engine oil filter it will be filtering smaller than the 15 micron rating. The position is have mounted it is a temporary one. I do not like how far it sticks out below the frame rail and I already have an idea of how to mount it better. I dont offroad so I think I will be fine for a long time and dont really need to worry about something striking the filter while driving. However I will carry an extra filter and some hose in case it does get struck by something and ripped off. I welcome any suggestions on ways to improve or better spots to mount it.

Are you putting unfiltered wmo in your truck tanks?
No. I first filter through 3 polyester paint filter bags in a 5gal bucket directly into a 55gal barrel, 10->1->.5 micron. That barrel has a pump with a 10 micron filter on it which i then pump into the auxiliary tank in my truck bed. The auxiliary tank pump also has a 10 micron filter on it which then gets pumped into the truck. So it goes through 5 filters before ending up in the trucks tank.

Do you have a pump pushing WMO from the tank to the repurposed oil filter? Only asking because it might put some extra stress on you pump by your fuel filter having to pull through the added oil filter.

Let's go 50k miles forward , then report back.
Cuz yer gunna kill tolerances.
I'm going to read post 1 later but till then I hope newbies don't consume this and kill ip and injectors, let alone rings.
I seriously doubt any paint filter is cleaning wmo to a burnable degree.
But I hope you're on to something...

Just reread post #1
I am going to deferr to the wmo/alternate fuel guys on filtration.
But again
My .02 is this....
#2 diesel is ALOT thinner than diesel engine oil.
Whats a better solvent?
Diesel or 50 wt oil?
Do you use motor oil to wash parts?
No ? Gas right? Ok solvent, but not heavy oil.
So you are feeding your ip raw wmo...
Carry on.

It really breaks down to the filtration capacity of the filter. if i remember right the head filter is 10 microns. Anything prior to that won't hurt. As long as inlet flow and pressure remain in spec, the filter at the engine should catch anything that gets by.

The repurposed oil filter is in front of the lift pump. I did think about the possibility of extra stress but I decided to try out anyways. I dont really care if it burns up the lift pump as I dont like it that much and would like to upgrade to the holley red lift pump that I have read about.

Even if it were the burn up the pump and injectors every 50k miles it would still be worth it for me where I live right now. 50000mi÷~15mpg=3333.33gals of diesel × average of 4.5$ gallon= 15000$ to drive that 50k miles. Im pretty certain I can get an entire fuel system for this truck for less than 15k. Also im actually getting paid to drive this truck. Around me there are plenty of people who will pay for disposal of large quantities of oil. So the money they pay me gets used to buy gas to dilute the oil. I also get plenty of free gasoline and diesel on Facebook marketplace all the time.

Yes the stock filter is rated for 10 micron and its still there.

Dude what are you on about? Who said anything about raw wmo ? Maybe if you would do some reading you would understand what is being talked about.

Ok you feed your close to $1500 i.p. and injectors with a used oil filter.
You do you bro.
I'm good.

Just figure I'm the uneducated person who is not taking your advice.

Yea a $1000 truck will allways eat raw fuel, anything you feed it.
Yes you can slave lake an idi.
Yes you're right.

Sorry to have tried to enlighten you.

Remember indadesert...
He was helpful too..
Carry on.

Any mod that thinks this is harsh, please axe it....
