Man, i could see my self rolling on something like that , i have near me a 1990 f250 w fresh rebuild tranny 2x4 super clean but has blown eng for less than $1k . He said Stat stuck and he fried the eng , IP and injectors should be good so is every thing else. Finding a good replacement eng might be the chore if i get the itch to go that rout

If it were me I would buy that truck and go through that engine, these engines really are simple to build especially if you are leaving the stock cam in, would be nice as a parent to know that they are driving in something that is mechanically reliable for years to come

Here is the details from that add

1990 F250 7.3 Ltr IDI International/Navstar Bad; engine blown
*New Automatic Transmission - Less than 2 Thousand Miles; Spent $15000, Barely Used
*Mechanical Injector Pump and Injectors - Still in Good Condition
*Extended Cab and Long-Bed still in Very Good Condition
*New Tires + Spare - Only 300 Miles; Paid $500 for Set
*New Thermostat
*New Power Steering Pump
*Radiator- New, But has small hole, Easy Fix
**$850 OBO, Will Take Any Reasonable Offer!
*Title Clean And In Hand
-Really hate to sell, but need to move, and don't have time to replace engine.

He stated that Thermostat stuck and that is why Eng was fried but i see new thermostat on the Add.

He clarified with the following statement

"It started overheating so we replaced the radiator which got a hole in it when it was being replaced. But we weren't in town. We were in Atlanta for our boys spring break. So we ended up towing it back here.

How can you fry an IDI :dunno. What is the average cost to rebuild

Found an Eng with 200k Miles , Guy was asking $1500 including every thing ,He swapping to Powerstroke , The least he will take is $1200 but not sure whats is the fair market value . He have no record on the IP , Injectors. This is a complete ENG that will come with every thing .

Any thought , assuming that all works out between the truck and eng am looking close to $2k if that

At the very least I'd want to see a compression test. I'd have a tough time forking that over without a folder full of documentation of the engines health and receipts of parts changed.

$1200 is steep. A few years back, I bought the 7.3 that's in my '85 and had it delivered to my garage door for $950. It had about 1000,000 miles on a rebuild and came with an almost complete first gen Banks turbo.

Actually we placed the Idea on Hold as far as the IDI goes . Might try and find her a good F100 , older F150 or so. If any one have a good reasonably priced one for 1st time driver PM
