How to switch fuel tank?

Hi I was wondering if I need to shut the vehicle off to switch fuel tanks or if I can just switch on the go I don't want to do anything to mess it up and I am thinking that I can on the go but not wanting to take the risk

Run it till it spits at ya, then see if it has less than a 1/4 tank...
Search shower heads.
