I want some smoke
any help wpuld be appriciated.
Why would you want more smoke?

That is the reason why all the "tree huggers" are whining and the emissions standards have become a joke! The oil content of diesel keeps dropping as new laws are passed to "cut back" on emissions which means the fuel available at the pump will no longer have the lubrication properties that our older mechanical engines need to run dependably and correctly. I just turned up my pump two flats yesterday just try to have more fuel under higher rpms just to turn it back down less than two hours later (see my thread in The Lounge). Some smoke is okay, but too much makes you a "target" for law enforcement and makes new emission laws easier to pass. Have you heard of the "Cash For Your Clunkers" bill?
I do know what im messing with, and i dont wanna melt my motor. Im 17 and i just spent 1400 bucks on the truck. I just want more out of it. Know where i can get a cheap pyro?
No matter how I word this, it's going to sound insulting, but it's not meant that way. I was 17, and thought I knew more than I did. I'm older now, and realize what my dad meant when he'd say "I've been 17 before, but you've never been 43 before". If you know what you're messing with so much, why ask for advice and then refuse to accept or even consider the advice offered?

These truck will not outrun a PSD, Cummins, or Duramax but in my opinion, they will out work all of those all day long. These engines are cheaper to maintain and can be bought without a monthly payment. The were designed with lower rpm limits than the newer engines, but can run all day working and not damage anything if stock, and modified (with a watchful eye). You need an EGT gauge BEFORE you play with the pump unless you are willing to take the chance on a meltdown at your own expense. I have a turboed engine with the pump up two flats. Even though I say you need a gauge, I don't have mine hooked up yet. The difference is that I have been warned of the damages that can result from pushing the limits too far and have no one but myself to blame if I meltdown my motor. Smoke equals higher EGTs, and higher EGTs equal meltdown... Plain and simple. As for a gauge, you get what you pay for. Do you want to risk your $1,400 investment to a cheap import made gauge when you can spend a little extra and have better peace of mind? Get a good gauge and watch it like a hawk until you "learn" how the truck handles and reacts to the added fuel. 1,200 degrees is the "agreed" upon EGT limit. You can get away with more, but you might not too. Each engine is different, but without an EGT gauge, you have no clue what's going on. Would you cross a highway with a blindfold over your eyes and ear plugs in your ears?
do yourself a favor.
before you get fustrated and all over the lack of power these motors put out(and you will), sell what you have while it's worth something and get yourself a PSD.
x2 If you want something with more power and easy "plug and play" hp and torque gains, sell the IDI and buy a PSD. These engines were built and designed in a completely different era of trucks and never were a big hp or torque producer. I have no doubts about my truck being able to tow anything that I've backed up to. I might not get there as fast, but I will get there.
