So I want to change the diff fluid the rear diff of my truck, I was thinking of changing the diff cover with an aftermarket cover as well. My truck is 1990 F350 4x4 Chassis cab dually and the axle code is a W5 which I believe comes back to a 4.10 10.25 LS. I haven’t counted the bolts on the diff cover yet.

I see that many 10.25 diff covers are for srw applications only. Can anyone shed some light onto this? Here’s a pic.

I don't think that there would be a difference between the diff covers for a single wheel and a dual wheel. I could be wrong, but that doesn't make any sense to me if they are.

I don't believe there is a difference. I've never seen anything to indicate there was and I have one of each.

Depending on what kind of cover you are looking for you may want to check out this series that Gale Banks did on diff cover research. This is the first in the series of videos on what they looked at and it is pretty impressive to see what the fluid dynamics happens in the diff.

Yeah I watched that series a couple of weeks ago. Interesting for sure. But not interesting enough for me to fork out $400  , especially on a truck that isn't a daily driver!

The other thing is that it has a lifetime warranty even if you break off the cooling ears. I have other things I could spend the $400 on lol.

I also want to know where are the rest of the results for the other diff covers they tested. I believe I saw an AFE and BD in the video, but they didn't mention it later on in their analysis...

There is not a difference, they use the same cover.

That is what I thought. However when you look at many of the aftermarket 10.25 diff covers, they say for SRW applications only. Thus my curiosity.

The only reason I can think of, is that the early 2000s F350 duallys had Dana 80s. So being these covers fit a range of years, they are advertised as such.

Correct on the Dana 80 F350 usage for 99+. But it's not exclusive. A 5.4L gas f350 DRW can still have a 10.5".

Any 10.25 or 10.50 cover is interchangeable. All the way up to current. But for that matter so are the internals mostly lol. Those covers (gnathv) were stock in the 08 era, but never on OBS. Just a good upgrade.

Correct again, most of the duallys 00+ got Dana 80's, that's why they don't work. All obs axles (non f-super duty) are 10.25

We had some lengthy discussion a while back about banks. I don't 100 percent agree with all the conclusions he draws, but a cool design either way.
