Facet Duralift at Frame Rail?

Has anybody ran the Facet Duralift fuel pump mounted at the frame rail near the fuel tanks?

I am in the process of installing one on the 6.9 Econoline, and it doesn't appear there is any other place to put it. Will it work in this location?

I am not sure if mine is a facet duralift fuel pump, because the PO installed it and haven't really looked at the brand of it but mine is mounted on the frame rail in front of the fuel tanks (used as an auxiliary pump). Sure does make life alot easier when replacing fuel filter and things that cause air to get in fuel lines. Just flip switch to prime lines and it fires right up!

This pump is a puller not a pusher. I ran into problems mounting low with a bed tank, but if you ONLY have stock location tanks and mount the pump as high on the frame as you can, you should be fine. make sure to take a chunk of sheet metal and bend it up and mount it to where it protects your fuel bowl from rocks. With my current setup I run a redundant pump setup with 2 pumps, one for each tank, the bed tank pump HAS to be mounted above the bed tank up on the headache rack, but the one going to the stock location rear tank works fine on the frame. not my first choice of locations, but given the fuel valve locations, it just wound up there

I have a metal plate protecting the pump from rocks.

I am curious how many gallons your bed tank holds?

I have my Carrier pump mounted on the frame rail just ahead of the fuel tank. I've had no issues with the location, in so far as how the engine runs.

My concern is vulnerability. I've fabed up a very temporary prototype shield for road garbage, and have it in place. That will be replaced with a more sturdy model.

I found a spot along the frame rail and mounted the pump as high as possible. It feeds the fuel into a Golden Rod filter, and on to the factory filter, bypassing the factory lift pump.

From other discussions, the Facet Duralift pump apparently has a check valve on the inlet of the pump. It seems the 150 gallons (1340 lbs) of fuel (located about 3 feet above the pump) developed enough pressure on the inlet of the pump to prevent the check valve from closing. So the pump could not pump.

It is good to know the limitations of the Duralift pump.

I contacted tech support at Facet a while ago, and they said the pump will work mounted at the frame rail when fed by the stock fuel tanks. From this information and along with the testimonies in this thread, it appears the pump should work good when installed at the frame rail and fed by the stock tanks, and the performance of the pump will not be compromised in any way.

You should really have some sheet metal coming downfully across the front and down under the bottom to deflect road debris . Your front tires are constantly flingling things up, even though the bowl is a high impact polycarbonate , you dont want to push your luck. These same kind of bowls have been hanging off teh frames of big trucks fro decades without issues, but still, never hurts to play it safe.

I have the pictured pump but I fabricated a bracket to mount it on the inside frame rail well protected from crap. The placement is about 12 inches past the fuel tank switchover valve. Rubber hose in and out of it for ease of installation. To keep from loosing lots of fuel when cutting into the plastic fuel lines on my rig I quickly cut and installed a piece of rubber hose with a C clamp on the hose. It kept the fuel from running out down my arms to my underarms.. Thats when it starts to really hurt.. You will only do this once and find a pair of vice grips or a big clamp to shut off the open fuel line... This I know...
