Cackler, dana or other power locks are split carrier, the sterling and some older car ls diffs are behind the side/axle gears,not the spiders ,that is indeed a ls diff ,if it were open you could see the back of the rh side gear and the shim.
I have rebuilt/replaced many so there.LOL

Even with the bad contrast look at the shape of the carrier housing. This is a picture of a sterling open diff.

Sorry I forgot to check back in on this...anyway I didn't get another picture before I put the cover back on and filled it with oil. :dunno Ah well.

If the truck is still limited slip I'm assuming the clutches are burnt out, but considering the soup I drained out when I did the gear oil, that doesn't surprise me.

Oldmisterbill has posted a correct open-diff pic for a Ford 10.25". I help put a Lockright in one of these this past spring.

Ghunt's pic is the factory LSD. I took on of those out of my truck - threw it away - and installed a Detroit Locker. :sly

BTW, the Ford 10.5" LSD is a split-case design much like Dana uses.
