My emergency brake pedal does not ratchet, can this be repaired or do I need to go to a wrecking yard?

Mine can do that at times. What I've found is that it happens when I let the parking brake off and for some reason that I haven't yet been able to track down it develops the "no ratchet" symptom. I've learned that if I pull the foot pedal back hard it's all good again, or if I let it snap back hard by sliding my foot off to the side when I release the brake then it works fine.
Still trying to figure out where it holds up so that I can try lubing the right area.

What a coincidence... I just replaced BOTH rear parking cables and now the main/front cable must be hanging-up.
So... is it difficult to unbolt the parking brake assembly to clean/lube and install a new front cable?

I've done the front (primary) cable once.
I remember that it was a "whippin'"...but I was a neophyte... someone with more experience with certainly chime in.

Removed my e brake assembly and the pencil points to the area that needs a squirt of WD40 etc and it will start ratcheting again.
Now I need the front brake cable for my 155" wheel base 1988 F250.
Getting the OE cable out front the floor was a ****.

For some reason threads like this give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

"The E-brake on my 30-year old ford pickup stopped working"

"Here's where you need to oil it."

FIXED

Of course, it's not always so simple, and I can attest to that, too. But the point is, you can fix them. Half the new cars come with electric E-brakes. Reminds me of the automatic shoulder belts from the late 80s.:bs

Hey growing up I thought those belts were the coolest things ever. Plus they were kind of ingenious at the time to meet the newer safety standards.
