Thats one thing I don't like about mine. Its very unhappy when cold. Feels like I have no power at all, barely wants to move. Once it warms up its good though. I would rather a manual trans, and that might just be done sometime in the future.

However I promised my wife this would be the truck I don't modify a whole bunch. So I need to tread lightly.

Well when you have the time, will, and cash, a pair of vice grips on the cooler like could possibly simulate a "busted" trans.
And then an over exaggeration of the price for a "bulletproof" tranny upgrade since you're going to need one will give you the permission to get a 6 speed. Or even a 5 speed!

It would work a lot better if you were the loving spouse that she never had that went and warmed the truck up. For her, applied the vice grips, and when she went to go drive it. If she was the one to tell you that the trans just took a ****.

I hate mine. Can't drive the truck without 15 min of warm up time. I can't wait till I can afford a manual trans for it.

It must be stock. My 4R and E4 takes 5 minutes or less. They are not stock, but they look stock on the outside.

Yeah mine also takes under 5 mins but it still kills the whole jump in and go thing!

That would be the 5R. The mystery sixth gear in a five speed tranny.

I can attest to that. It took several times of counting 1-2-3-4-5-6 and knowing it only has 5 gears...... It is a 5 speed, but it does "shift" 6 times.......

AHHH, back at home and did some more patching of the floor.
the floor is ready to grind and seam seal
my new cab lights were waiting at my door today.
so those will go on tomorrow, and hopefully i can get some duraglass on the roof.
gotta have this buttoned up by monday! my windows will get installed and i got another side job coming.

Those ^^^^^ Truck-Lite cab lights are EXACT OEMs; nice quality product. I just installed 'em on two of our trucks. They even throw in the bulbs and pigtails.

Is it the door jamb weatherstrips you're looking for? Dunno about the rear doors, but for the front, AutoNation White Bear Lake (dealership) has OEMs, made in Canada, for abour $40 a side + shipping. ALL the aftermarket ones I've found are made in China. Up until last week, Dennis Carpenter had a set advertised as "Made in USA", until we bought a set, and my wife (JUST before she was gonna install them) saw the "Made in China" sticker on the bag. They've, uhmm, meanwhile removed the "Made in USA" logo from that listing on their web site....

I wouldn't be surprised if for the rears, you just buy the same part, and cut it to length.

thanks for the reminder! i gotta ship that valve, and a IP bolt cover today.
i was talking about the window channel weather stripping, and the sheilds for the glass. the door seals off both trucks are in damn good condition, so ill be reusing them.
but yea if i needed them it would be the same as the front, would just have to glue them in, like i will do with the used ones i have.
hoping for an air tight comfortable(as it will get with a front leaf shackle on the front springs) ride.
but now, i gotta weld some 5/16 plate to the roof before i go too much further.
it will make installing a roof rack that much easier!

IM kind of worried about these corners of the lower windsheild opening.
i know they dont go into the cab, but i feel like hammering them down and welding them up.

i rewired the back of the truck, deleted the FSV pigtail, deleted the wires for the front tank,
fixed the speed sensor wiring

I CANNOT FIND WHERE THE REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH GOES ON THIS F450 ZF5.
not like i need em, but it would be nice to have.

modified the 1989 transfer to accept the 87 style shift linkage,
got the boots all installed, gotta find a cool shifter knob for the trans selector.

now, time to use up a bunch of 80 grit and lay duraglass......

They are actually a 6 speed. The one gear is hardly ever used, only when really cold.

I've wondered if my CTS would pick up on it (I have one set to display gear + TCL).

Technically they are a 3 speed trans with an overdrive. 1, 1 over, 2, 2 over, 3, 3 over (whatever gear each one represents). Below a certain temp it goes 1-2-3-4-6, above that temp it goes 1-2-3-5-6. 4th is 1.096:1, 5th is 1:1 so almost identical. Apparently they just could not get the 3-5 shift to operate correctly at low temps. This is all per Mark Kovalsky, who is on several forums and was an engineer who designed and tested the 5R


"The TorqShift trans is actually two transmissions in one case.

There is a two speed in the front of the trans, with a 1:1 ratio and a 0.71:1 ratio. Then there is a three speed in the back of the trans, with 3.11:1, 1.54:1, and 1:1.

First gear is both trans in low, which is 1:1 times 3.11:1, which gives a ratio of 3.11:1.
Second is front trans in high, 0.71:1, and rear in low, 3.11:1. This gives a ratio of 2.2:1.
Third gear is front in 1:1 and rear in 1.54:1. Overall ratio is 1.54:1.
Fourth (the little used gear) is front in 0.71:1 and rear in 1.54:1. Overall ratio is 1.09:1.
Fifth is both in 1:1.
Sixth is front in 0.71:1 and rear in 1:1. Overall ratio is 0.71:1.

Reverse light plug is drivers side most of the way towards the top behind the bellhousing, in the ribbed/finned area.

It's a little hard to see, but the little red spot near the front just above center and before the bell housing is the connector for the reverse lights. It's right next to the yellow strap.

ill take a look tomorrow.
i spent all day today sanding duraglass, seam sealing, and painted the roof.
shes not the straightest arrow in the bunch, but shell do until im ready for final body work and final paint.

tomorrow my windows get installed! then i can button everything up!
