Hello everyone. A few months ago I picked up a 1990 F350 with a spare cab that must have come from down south because it is absolutely flawless immaculate. The truck is a 7.3 with a E40D four-wheel-drive.

The cab is not terrible, but it did sit leaning to the side for over 20 years in a farmers field, so the driver side rocker and floor are not in the best shape at all. The last inspection is 2005. The person I bought it off of had a lot of intentions, but it never went anywhere so now I have it.

I already did a bunch of stuff, new headlight assemblies, alternator, thermostat, front brakes and calipers, rear brakes and hardware, wheel cylinders, E brake cables, oil cooler reseal.

Now to cut to the chase, I can see this turning into openings Pandora’s box very quickly. Right now, I am seeing light at both side sides of the tunnel because I am just as far in as I am out. If I am going to mess around with floors and rockers and cab mounts and still have something that is what it is, I might as well just bite the bullet and put the good cab on and then when it’s done, it is perfect. But then at that point, you’re going to put two new fenders on as well so where do you start? Where do you stop?

My hold up on swapping the cab is the immaculate cab is a gasoline engine cab. Both cabs are XLT cabs with power windows and locks, so I’m guessing the entire wiring harness swap would literally just be for the tachometer and the wait to start light?

Time really is not that much of an issue, I would like it done within two months time by mid March and I can start on it very soon. I have an excavator on the property so I can literally just swing one off and swing the new one back on, but again the wiring is tripping me up here.

So… has anyone ever swapped wiring harnesses? If so is there any major catastrophe I need to be aware of?

Thanks for reading.

In my opinion, I would swap the wiring harnesses just to be safe. There's probably a few other small things that are different between the two. The harness swap isn't really too difficult once you get started. It's just intimidating.

Yeah, definitely do the whole harness. I'm pretty sure if you look up @hacked89 s thread about his IDI bricknose bronco build, he has several pictures of the harness swap. I'm almost certain that it's necessary.

I would do the harness as well. There's a few odd differences they've done over the years that can make things more complicated. Like the different ac controls, the wiring is different, sometimes connectors are different....
