eah they could have been ALOT better.
the welding shop only had 3/32 filler rod.
used a 1/16 tungsten
so i needed 1/16 filler rod -cuss
and i had to buy it in a 10 pound box!
oahwell, i use 308 rod alot on bigger stuff.

I hear ya. I do some ss tigging now and then. I usually try to get it to where I can just fuse it (no filler needed). Of course it doesn't always work that way, and obviously won't on a buttweld such as you were working with.

I'll say too, it looks good. I wanna ic mine so bad.....think I'll use aluminum tho on mine...hmmm

i did a bit of aluminum on the turbo hat, you know...
with the right tungsten (or lack there of, raises fist at the EPA)
i didnt do to bad! only thing about aluminum is it oxidizes too fast, stainless will keep its shine all of the time!

Nice idea! I was debating battleship grey/something lighter below, with all the normal aircarft stencil markings (rescue, exhaust, driver name, tire pressure markings) and noseart on the Mustang. Never done paint/body before so I'm still undecided. Trucks I wanted to do in OD green with the vehicle stencils (tp, gaw, cg, "unit" on bumper)

Huh??

What do you use for aluminum? I use the orange band (not sure on all the percentages gobbledygook) sharpened almost to a point and left to "ball up" on it's own. Works good for me. 3/32" is the size of choice for most of what I do, along with 4043 filler.

DB, my truck is getting painted CAT grey, bunch of yellow accent son it too. Im stenciling the trucks code on it P9106, the aircraft stencils for fuel, exhaust etc are a great idea, dont mind if i steal that!

i may be misinformed.
no time to do a search right now,
i could have swore that my welding supply told me that they dont sell "tungsten" any more due to the concern of radiation.
maybe its the Thorzine :dunno

they sell the blurple strip for everything now.(left side)
worked great on the aluminum.
im no certified professional welder, just a hobby welder.

thorium, not thorazine although many on the regulatory bodies in cali could use some antipsychotics.

Interesting the lanthanide content of the one on the left, rare earths like lanthanum and yttrium are $$$$.
