No crank after zf5 swap

So I Just finished up the mechanical parts of swapping the e4od for a zf5 on my 1991 f250, 7.3 idi. Problem is, now Ive got no crank by the key. It does crank when crossing the starter solenoid. I think my problem is the neutral safety switch.

First I tried putting the MLPS sensor in neutral, but could not get it to crank. I tried what Im pretty sure is neutral based on a line in the body of the MLPS, as well as every other position to be safe. No crank in any position.

Based on other forum posts, I then tried bridging the red with white stripe and white with pink stripe wires on the harness side of the MLPS connector, but still had no crank. I have not plugged in a clutch safety, and still have the plug from the automatic in so I don't think that should be a problem?

I don't know too much about electrical stuff, and this is my first IDI/Ford truck so Im probably missing or doing something dumb. Maybe those are the right wires to jump and something else could be stopping the key from cranking? Hoping someone who's done this might know what Im missing.

This is also my first post here, so let me know If Im posting this in the wrong place or anything.

Thanks Nero! :Thumbs Up

Jumper that blue/red wire and let us know if she starts.

Make sure your fuel filter is full before starting her. Depress the Schraeder valve and only fuel should come out when cranking.

I dont see a blue with red wire on the harness, the only primarily blue wire has a yellow stripe. Also, which wire should I be jumping it to? Heres the wires I have on the MLPS harness. When I was looking at wire diagrams for the harness, It seemed like my wire colors didn't exactly match up. I thought maybe I just had the wrong year, but couldn't find one that matched exactly.

Where is that harness from? On my 1990 f350 when I did the zf swap, there is a blue/red wire loop for start interlock, one down by the range selector for either P or N, the same circuit goes under the dash for the clutch pedal wiring, which for a stock auto should be just capped with a jumper already, unless you connected the clutch safety switch.

Yea your wiring is a bit odd, maybe the harness or part of it was swapped in from a later model truck because those wires don't match that year. Maybe that is part of the problem.

I did a ZF5 swap in my 88 F350 CCLB with the 7.3 but it had a AOD so I only had 4 wires to worry about, which don't match what you have

So all I did was put them in a 4 wire plug and bridged the two Red/Blu wires together, the other two are for the reverse switch.

I had done a M5OD 5 speed swap in my 94 Bronco which had an E4OD and those wires on the manual match what you have

So maybe try jumping those wires together, thats what I did in my bronco for it to work. But I suspect that there is some other issue with this transplanted later model wiring harness, hopefully not. Hope this helped

Interesting, seems like I probably do have some other wiring harness on there. Im considering just putting in a push to start, as the key still works for glow plugs and FSS. heres the harness from the pic earlier, Ive tried a few jumping a few wires based on other forums but no luck.

Also, Ive got a new problem Ive only just started trouble shooting - no more crank when crossing the starter solenoid. Crossed it to test the starter and make sure fuel was primed. Was careful not to run it for too long. It suddenly stopped cranking while crossed, no noise from the starter. got the starter bench tested at Napa and it was all good, so doesnt seem like I burnt it out. Ground wire seems to be all good. batteries are reading 11.6 volts, doesn't drop or change when crossing solenoid. solenoid receives similar volts when crossed. Before I pulled the starter to test it, it was also getting 11.something volts when solenoid was crossed, but no crank or any noise at all. Need to test the power to the starter again to double check though. Will update If I get either of these things figured out.

edit: starter isnt spinning when wired up but unbolted from tranny. Gotta be solenoid or the wiring between the solenoid and starter I think.

Looks like the white/pink and red/blue wire is your interlock wiring.

As for the starter not going, sounds like the starter solenoid on the fender is done
