I found the problem. I hadn't fully tightened up one of the cross-over pipe flanges. :dunno I figured it out when I went to change the oil and noticed all the soot on one side of the oil pan. After tightening it up it is running much better. Only a lot of smoke when I just get on the peddle. It is boosting much better than the previous motor was, with no changes to the waste gate. The higher boost is all across the rpm range. Max is one psi higher, now at 8. I'm happy so far.

I'm in need of an intercooler though. I can roast this thing pretty easily if I stay on the peddle.

At least you're aware of the problem. I'll bet that it won't take you too long to get one installed. No need to damage all of the work that you just put into the engine.
