A few things I learned...

1. When drilling flat steel, a drill press is your friend.
2. Measure twice, cut once.
3. When putting on the link the best way I found to re-assemble everything is to put the bushings into the link with a C-clamp and a ratchet head over the bushing hole to rig a press with an opening for the bushing to push into. It will greatly minimize damage to the bushing. I used that system to put the links on as well.
4. Channel locks worked well to attach the upper link onto the transfer case linkage pin after using the c-clamp press to put the link onto the shifter side first.

I can check length of my shift bar linkage for ZF/1356 combination if anyone wants.

Also boiling water on the bushings and then a forked tool like for door panel removal to pry off.

Hope that helps with bushings LOL
