I'm getting close to being ready to run and tune the engine.
Since I have multiple IDIs and the builds aren't really close to stock I wanted to build an engine run stand that I can also put the radiator on and do extended running.

I also didn't want to have to bolt support to the bell housing like a standard run stand, so I measured the angles and recreated the motor cradle.

Work in progress.

Set the engine on it. The space infront is for the future radiator framing, intercooler, stand handle, and gauges/accessories.

I originally framed the motor mounts cause I was under the impression you could R&R a tranny on an IDI without a trans jack holding up the bell housing but that doesn't seem to be the case. It would be alot of weight on the bolts. It wants to go nose up testing the balancing, so I will make up mounts for the rear.

I chose the specific height and position so that the turbo piping clears and the oil can be changed. Also it can easily go over the cherry pickers legs.

Checkpoint on the engine run stand.

Made the bell housing adapter and supports and its rolling around on its own now with the engine bolted down.

Next up is the radiator frame, gas tank, battery holder, and gauge stand.

Intent of this stand is to be used for extended running and tuning. From that, I would need a radiator and accessory mounting points. I decided to use an old rusted core support and weld it up and modify it for the job.

Mounted up the 1 gallon fuel tank, switch panel, gauges, pump, and lines. Also welded up the battery tray.

You're an animal! Love the progress(time permitting) and your thinking about things. You clearly know your stuff and I've learned a lot through the build.
Sweet engine cradle! How much testing can you do on the stand with no load? I'm curious.

Thanks man. The engine stand allows me to perform multiple heat cycles, make any needed fastener adjustments, fix any leaks, set the engine timing, and fix or change anything where it's easily accesible before it goes into the truck. Also allows me to mock up the intercooler and piping.

Wanted to use this post to add my two deep dive threads to my main thread.

IDI Fuel Math:
I'm pretty confident the fuel system should be 1/2" inch but will need to collect data to confirm once it's back in the truck and on the road. You will see in a future picture today I have taps before and after the regulator.

Love the engine stand. Just wondering: with IDI radiators becoming harder to find, you might want to try to test fit an OBS Powerstroke radiator. I know your current project is a brick nose, but I seem to remember something about the early 1994.5 PSDs using IDI radiators as the core suppprt is the same. Again, just saying you might think about simple/more available options from a radiator standpoint in case you need to steal that one off your stand for a actual truck.

And by the way: that stand is killer. All you are missing is a water brake or a giant electric motor so you could put the engine under some load :p
