bad fuel?
so my truck was running decent as usual, front tank was really low so i was running on rear tank, stopped for fuel, swithced back to front tank... few miles up the road when i stopped i noticed the truck was smoking like a chimney at idle, and it was shaking the whole cab like a large cammed...- dizdak

white "puff" smoke on start up
did a little looking around and didn't find what i was looking for, So - lately seems that when i start the truck it wants to "puff" white smoke, its not constant almost like when it hits only a cylinder or 2 maybe... What could cause this? Once it warms up for 30 or so seconds it seems to clear...- dizdak

battery indicator light / tach fluctuating
searched around and didn't really find what i was looking for, so here is the issue, my battery indicator light likes to flicker on and off as i am driving, and it seems to have to do with the rpms.. above about 2k rpms the light will stay off, down shift and get under the rpms coming to a stop...- dizdak

clutch pedal adjustment?
is there any adjusting of the clutch pedal? seems like i have to let my pedal out near 3/4 of the way before it starts to move the truck.. i know i am about due for a new clutch so figure may as well do it all while its down...- dizdak

4.88 gears ????
anyone running this large of gear? i have a 5spd, turbo, plan to upgrade to 37" tires here soon.. been looking to regear to 4.56s... i do haul my play truck and trailer frequently approx 10k lbs... just want to do this one time..- dizdak

pyrometer placement / turbo
yes i used search to look, but didn't find my specific answer, actually made me question further... read about pyro placement, most of what i read seemed to say between cyl 6 & 8.... but then i seen something say closer to turbo the better? is that a true statement? i may finally get around to...- dizdak

one step closer to happy!!
well i did the 3" down pipe, put a new radiator in, and new fan clutch... the truck hauls a load much better i feel!!! under a load i can actually hear the turbo working.. nothing major but its at least hearable now.. gotta finish off the exhaust soon.. ran straight down pipe and its really not...- dizdak

back pressure?
do our trucks require a certain amount of back pressure? always heard with diesel it doesn't matter... i only ask because i have noticed since i just have the 3" down pipe and no exhaust, and still have not put the air box back on it seems my engine turns over more times prior to starting.. so...- dizdak

expected more whistle...
at the moment just have straight Banks 3" down pipe. exhaust not hooked up, and haven't hooked air box back up yet, watching the turbo spin... and its very quiet...really was hoping for more noticeable turbo whistle...- dizdak

Banks 3" down pipe
just figured i would put info up incase anyone else is wanting one, i just got off the phone and ordered the down pipe, $92.16 on sale right now the guy said...$15.00 shipping but i am in FL ... but i didn't think the price was too bad.. can't wait to recieve it now and bust some knuckles...- dizdak

IP timing / turning up pump
my pump has not been timed since installation quite some time ago, i am finally adding a perometer here in the next week.. my question is does the pump timing matter if i plan to turn the pump up? with adding the perometer i figure i can safely turn the pump up some now and monitor EGT..- dizdak

towing- weight, speed, and temps
putting this thread here cause i don't want to know what the power strokes, cummins, and duramax's do... My question is for the folks running their IDIs and making them do work... lift kit sizes
Want more lift on my truck..pretty much only seeing 4" kits..do they make a 6" kit? I have 4" front springs now..thinking add 3" reverse shackle lift but the ones I seen were pricey in my opinion. .any other options ? Aside body lift. .- dizdak

radiator circulation
my truck decided to jump up to 230 deg today under normal driving, usually runs 190ish -200 max if i am pushing it without a load... so 230 scared the chit out of me for a minute...stopped at the house before heading to get the kids, put some cool water in the radiator and it dropped to 190...- dizdak

tach and battery light?
are the tach and battery indicator light tied in together? my tach is not working properly, shows low to no rpms until i get to running through the gears, then when waiting at a light or what not it bounces around, and when its bouncing down under a certain RPM the battery indicator light comes...- dizdak

low RPMs
ok, seems every time i start the truck lately another issue is developed... last couple times i have started the truck it shows that it is only idling at about 300 rpms, and takes a while before they pick up and stay where they usually run.. also according to the tach there is a little...- dizdak

tachometer slow response
last couple times i have started the truck i have noticed that the tach seems to not respond or only show around 100rpms, then usually after running for a few and them a little slap of the throttle it picks up and sits where it should... where should i start with seeing if there is just a bad...- dizdak

hard brake pedal- great start to the day!!

am curious after being on the site for a while and reading many posts of extensive mods some have done, i am wondering how much many of you have in your motors..And also for sake of argument why when engine swaps are out there that seem to net more power and more readily available parts? 4th gear towing?
took the play truck out over the weekend, tow weight of truck and trailer approx 9500lbs give or take, about a 40 mile ride with a good 20 miles of it wide open hwy, noticed running 5th gear at 55-60 it was putting smoke out pretty heavy, running at about 1700-1800 rpms, down shifted to 4th...- dizdak

knock from manual trans..
ok after reading a few posts, i am leaning toward the flywheel going or being bad, was laying under the truck with it running and realized the loud knocky sound is coming from the trans.. it is a pretty dang loud knocky sound...truck still runs good and shifts good, but the noise of the knock...- dizdak

trac bar drop?
got my springs installed, everything fits aside the trac bar not long enough, is this the correct drop bracket i need? http://www.ntwonline.com/Skyjacker-Suspension-86-98-Ford-F350-Track-Bar-Ext-Bracket.html, truck has the d60 straight axle from factory.. this looks like just what i need but...- dizdak
