Moving isn’t fun.

Had a few hours today to make some more progress

Finished the driver’s side of the rear axle up, got bearings torqued, axle installed, brake hardware in and brakes adjusted

New brake hard lines arrived yesterday, I test fit them and neither fit, one has the wrong fittings and both are too short. Methinks it was meant for a srw axle, but not sure.

Next I pulled the powersteering pump and pulled it apart to reseal it and install the hydro boost reservoir

Whenever I pull one of these pumps I always like to make sure to clean the screen on the control valve

Pulled the lines out of the steering box, I will be replacing them with the hydroboost lines

Installed the new hydroboost unit on the firewall. I’d recommend having a second person to help line this up, it’s a bear to get it into the firewall and into the brake pedal bracket

Going to need to order the f450 reservoir, the f350 reservoir is too small for the master cylinder and won’t be able to seal.

More progress, got all the lines in and massaged to reach and not rub anything and got the power steering pump installed. I tightened up the steering box while I was in there

Then I went to swap pedals and ran into some issues, as you can see there’s some big differences between the stock pedal and the f-Superuty unit we have. They both say auto trans but the pin will not fit into the new pedal since it has a smaller bore and the offset is completely different. What do y’all think? Did we end up with the wrong pedal? I didn’t order it so I can’t really confirm what this new pedal came off of.

Well I took the truck on drive up and down the driveway and it seems to be stopping much better but still takes a good bit of pedal effort. I think it needs more bleeding, ended you flushing the entire system since the old brake fluid was black and rusty.

The power steering works great. One finger even with the 37s, and the steering is super tight and has no play now, truck runs great with the fuel system work I did. This truck is awesome and I need one now LOL

Here’s what I ended up doing for the pedal. Each end I turned down some 3/4” OD bronze with a 1/2” ID and gave it a lip. I beveled the inside into a cone so it pressed into each side of the bracket when I tightened the bolt (I ended up using half inch stainless) this held the bolt into the bracket.

Next the offset of the pedal was wrong and didn’t line up so I cut down one side of the pedal to center it properly and then used a piece of nylon (to keep from squeaking) and just the right of length of bronze pipe to space the pedal correctly. I’ll grab some good pictures in the morning.

After that I made the rear brake line, adjusted the rear brakes again, installed master cylinder reservoir from my f-superduty, bled the master cylinder, bled the power steering, bled and flushed the brakes and serviced the front brakes

Took the truck out onto the road today after bleeding the brakes again. Truck runs well and stops great, no more problems there. Also noticed the alternator started charging again. Just checked it and it has a solid 14 volts, maybe just had some corrosion on the brushes and with getting run it cleaned up? Who knows. I’ll keep an eye on it though

So you're just running the factory style pump huh? Mines kinda stiff even with a resealed pump and new gearbox. I want to do a saginaw swap but need to find a bracket first. Did you just clean everything good and reseal it? My pressure hose has a small leak but I didn't want to replace it until I do hydroboost. Maybe I'll have to try it now.

Yep just a stock pump resealed, I’ll post the part number for the kit when I get back to the shop. I’d check to see if your fluid is getting real hot after driving in town, could have a restriction somewhere. I bet you’ve already done this but greasing ball joints and tie rods can help with stiff steering as well

I already resealed mine, put a new bushing in too. It's probably just the lines. I need new boots but yes I greased the tie rods. No ball joints, pretty sure they're kingpins. I didn't see a grease fitting strangley.

Took the truck into town today, went to get an alignment and the tires balanced, turns out it wont fit on a regular rack so I'm going to do a tape measure alignment here and take it to a big rig shop if it needs it. Tires balanced out nicely but still has a vibration at 35-40 mph and vibrates after going over a bump or bridge at highway speeds.
