The only problem with a VGT is finding a place to physically install it under the hood of an IDI truck. The overall package is larger compared to a conventional turbo.

Making an electronic or even pressure controlled actuator is not too complicated. I keep chasing my tail on whether to try moving one of the batteries under the hood, or trying to remote mount the turbo under the bed.
Move both batteries to the frame rail. Passenger side to offset the fuel tank.
I've actually seen turbos mounted in the bed. Now, those were solely race trucks, but....

Put it through the hood!

I guess I could put the rusty hood back on and hack that one up LOL.

Yeah, the front passenger corner of the engine bay is probably the best bet. Routing the downpipe would be tricky without hacking the fender well though. The AC box pretty much rules out any kind of direct routing.

Yup. It seems pretty easy. We have a couple members here that are pretty good with programming and ardunios.

Just out of curiosity for all you guys running 10+ psi of boost, where in the rpm range are you making that boost and how many miles have you been running your rigs like that?

~1700 rpm iirc is where I cross the 10 psi threshold. 2000 RPM in 4th WOT seemed to be right around 15 psi. Over that I don't know because I only have a 15 psi gauge

1500 psi I go past 10 psi and 1700 I hit 17 psi in any gear. I’ll get 5 psi in neutral. I’ve been running like that for about a year but it’s in a truck that either is parked or at wot

Something is wrong with my truck then because I'm maxing 10 with 60-1 wheel mod, 90cc and stage 1's and for the life of me I'm not finding any leaks intake or exhaust, tried to bungee the wastegate closed while it also jot hooked up any way and nothing. Lots of black smoke that clears up with boost also so fuel Is there too??? My guage has to be broken or something idk at this point. Also my 088 ats got almost 20 psi before installing my new turbo

it depends on the weather but in the summer at 2,000 rpm i can almost hit 15 psi but i know 12 psi is easy. in the really cold weather at 2,500 rpm it will go to 20 psi and most of this is on the highway.

its almost hard to reach 900* on the pyro with a 90cc pump and my turbo.

Think about what you disturbed/changed when swapping turbos. Try a different boost gauge and start pulling parts off and pressure testing them, the intercooler could even be leaking

My intakes always full of oil is how I check for intake side leaks, checked all boots for tightness, intake hat Is tightened down with new gasket, and I felt all around the exhaust area for leaks while engine cold. Did throttle snaps to see if black smoke could Ben seen exiting anywhere It shouldn't be and I'm finding nothing yet. Unless the injection place didn't actually do my timing correct I'm at a loss but Oregon fuel injection has a good reputation

Don’t worry about that, it’s normal. It’s actually more out of the ordinary to have boost when free reving the engine
