Diesel oil has so much detergent compared to gassers. Ive never had sludge build up in a diesel engine

So like a quart or two quarts to add? My 6.9 burns a ton of oil so it probably wouldn't matter what I add, it'll just eat it anyway
Yes Sir, good memory...some thought the IP-advance piston was sticking (remember?)these engines can make all kinds of neat noises, especially if you listen to close.
I would bet your noise is caused by an injector. Didnt you have an intermittent rough idle not too long ago?
So, with new vs old, you too are experiencing the same thing...ain't that something?I have had injectors cause noises with out rough running and run bad with no noise.
I also had an old 6.9 that had a funny noise that came and went (with a slightly rough idle though) that turned out to be a pump problem.
At 200k I figured I was doing my truck a favor with a new set of injectors, it has never ran and sounded as good as it did with those "worn out" injectors.
And I remember this being mentioned before, but atleast with my trucks, it they dont get worked every so often they start sounding kinda crappy.
I find after I have "worked" my engine like towing it sounds better and runs better. I'm guessing I burn off the crap buildup on the cylinders and rings when it works hard. Our engines need to be heated up to keep the cylinders and rings from building up the varnish from the oil. Not saying we heat up the engine till its nearly overtemp but just run it like a truck earning a living. Just town driving in stop and go traffic wont keep our engines running well for long. Make them work to get the most out of them.
