IN-OUT play? or SIDE-SIDE play? if SIDE-SIDE then can you shove it into the housing?

up and down and side to side. id say 1/16th each way so 1/8 total. and that would be on the high side.

You need to get all the exhaust leaks sealed up on the pressure side. I just installed a banks kit on mine and was disappointed with the boost numbers. I had a small I mean small leak and could only pull 5 to 6 PSI and I fixed the leak after a lot of screwing around. Now on the same hill I can pull 10 to 12 psi. Seal all boost leaks.

Where was your exhaust leak? I have a small one on the up pipe and I wonder if thats why I can only get about 5 to 6 as well...

if you push it to the side all the way and turn it will it rub the housing?

i dont know, i wont be able to do much with it till the weekend because its so hot from driving to and from work but the time it cools some its dark out.

the PO said it was find before he took it off. so maybe something did get caught up in the waste gate or i have a leak somewhere. ill keep messing with it this week as much as i can and pull it apart this weekend if i dont fix it by then.

i put a pipe plug on the turbo where the line for the waste gate comes off of so im not getting a leak there. i took the air box off for a second and started the truck and the impeller is spinning good and not wobbling. i am leaking a little oil from the turbo drain but have oil pressure at the top of the turbo.

i am going to to keep checking for leaks tomorrow.

you guys were right i found a leak in the up pipe and fixed that. then took it for a drive and have alot more turbo whistle. i took it for a spin and could only get up to about 3lbs but you could really hear the turbo working. then just to be sure i but the waste gate in the opposite direction i had it and got no whistle and pulled vacuum on the gauge.

so now what do i look for? i really dont think i have a leak on the intake hat or anything.

It sounds that you have enough fuel to support more boost, so if the wastegate is completely closed, you more than likely have to have a leak somewhere. If the turbo sounds like it is working, the exhaust should be good. If it was me, I would spray a touch of a combustable substance around the intake hat and intake (not into the intake) to see if the idle changes.

yeah i can still get alot of black smoke. so fuel is not a problem. driving to and from work and getting on the inerstate i still only got like 2psi tops getting on it. i will try spraying stuff on the intake area tomorrow or this weekend. if i dont find anything. i will take off the turbo and check out the waste gate good. i need to take it off anyway the oil drain has a small leak some how.

Yeah that's definitely not right. My non gated turbo will easily make 3-4 standing on it getting on I75. That's empty or very lightly loaded. I'm sure it would be more if I had a load.
