dont bother checking continuity. it only takes one of the multiple strands to complete the circuit and give you continuity, it takes all of them to carry amperage and give the starter the current it needs.

get the cable fixed and on the truck then get back and let us know whats going on.

Man, this thread grows so fast that I have to check back in here every few minutes just to keep up. LOL It grew like two pages in the time I was out "wasting" fuel. Get a set of good (NEW is the best) cables on the truck and have BOTH batteries charged up fully so that you can get some good amperage and voltage to the starter. Crank for NO MORE than 30 seconds at a time and then allow a minimum of 2 minutes between tries. There is only so much we can help on the computer and we can only help as much as you are willing "take in".

I won't call you "pupil", but is "Grasshopper" okay? :D

Not to be too insulting, but ignorance combined with arrogance is _________ ( you fill in the blank).(amusing/ frustrating....)

Fordman-Recruit ****** Klein: Cool down and relax. Lets take the emotions out of this, and get your truck running.

I think Punk should get some kind of award when this is over for having the most patience. I'm going to stick to an analysis of the reported observations.

"got red hot and broke"
If you had any part of your electrical system get red hot, then that was a point of high resistance. This means that the total electrical power available was not delivered to the load. Unfortunately, this means for the starter that it was low on volts due to the resistance, and was drawing even more current that normal. We all know from experience that low batteries, or extra resistance introduced into the starter circuit kills starters. So... I stand by my belief that it is not spinning fast enough. And, at this point, may never spin fast enough due to internal damage caused by low voltage/high currents even when the cable is fixed.

mel-
punk is a rare find. After driving 13 hours he's under the hood of one my fleet trucks changing out a HPOP in the darkcookoo I can't even begin to tell you what he and brandon did to the interior of a 79 MBZ 300SD after he got done with the PSD. They finished out at 6am iirc. I was fast asleep by 3am.
He's definitely on the other end of the extreme as far as the youth of today is concerned. He's going to go far.;Sweet (now if he can get over those funny haircuts...)
