So what did you do with your truck today?

Took it for another test drive after doing my exhaust repair, down pipe no longer leaking, and a lot more power. Boost gauge needle was physically stuck, so bumped it loose, I'll drive it again tomorrow.

Painting is 80% prep, 20% spraying. (The devil is in the detail.) What paint brand do you use? What gun do you shoot with?
It sure is. So much time sanding, masking, etc Spraying is the quick part! I'm using Omni basecoat (it's decent) and Transtar Motor City Euro clear (decent for the price, though I'd recommend others). I used to work for these companies.. so spray gun is an Iwata LPH80(low overspray, low material usage) for small panels and big areas get the LS400 Entech (base) and LS400 (clear).

Ideally, I'd paint the whole thing at once so it all matches, but the smaller the panel the easier it is to keep bugs out of it when spraying in the driveway!

We have painted with pop ups (Parts) and 20x20 tents (Fenders, engine compartment, etc.) and used thick plastic on the floor and for side panels. Then two box fans with hvac filters taped on the back cut into and taped to the plastic sides to suck air through the tent to keep overspray to a minimun, fumes to a minimum, bugs, and dust to a minimum. It contains the overspray and the plastic floor saves the driveway or parking lot. Paint, wait, roll, and toss! Easy breezy!

I will look at the Entech products, my roof has surface rust, the hood was repainted and now that paint is wearing off. So need to do some panels. I hear the good things about PPG paints but looking for recommendations.

I towed my son's new car home for the last time now that we have it running.

18 months ago my son and I bought and started work on a 1967 Ford Galaxie project car. We started at a friends warehouse who sold it to us. He had an autoshop in part of his warehouse. However he decided to close his doors due to a 20% rent increase and retired back in October.

A couple of months later we found a new place we could rent some shared space with a car lift so resumed there. You could leave the car on the rack but it was $25 a night, a tax to keep folks from hogging the rack. So we towed in on Saturday AM's and towed out on Sunday PM's.

Today I brought this 1967 Ford Galaxie home on our trailer as it now is driving again after taking a 13 year break. My son is very excited to be cruising his new ride.

These are some of the upgrades we did to get the car running after it was sitting for 11 years. -
1) Rebuilt the FE 390 engine
2) Had the C6 rebuilt
3) New driveshaft
4) New 3' stainless exhaust with a X pipe and Borla exhaust. Sounds awesome!
5) Upgraded to Wilwood disk brakes in the front
6) New brake master, booster, and brake lines
7) Painted the engine compartment
8) New water pump, hoses, heater core, thermostat, and recored the radiator
9) New wheels and tires
10) Edelbrock intake and carb
11) Mild CAM

I told him next fall we can do some body work and then paint it. But only if he still really loves the car and is willing to do the hard work!

Next is a new headliner and new front seat upholstry.

I wrapped my crossover pipe with exhaust wrapping. Stupid fiberglass all up in my hands now. I also turned my pump up another 1/2 flat, so I'm 2 whole flats up now. Took it for another test drive with my camper on the back. Doing about 50mph on a flat in 4th, pedal to the metal and kept doing stab breaking to simulate a load, max egt is now about 940°f, I think I'll leave it there for now, and bring tools to adjust it down while camping if needed.

Well guys, I guess if we're going to keep up with the times we'll have to do an "LS swap" in our IDIs......I'm kidding, but dang Chevy people are strange....

Chevy has made racing and performance affordable for amateurs for decades. Wether you want to build a old 350 (Tons of engines and parts still out there.), run a big block, or get in the LS game with a crate motor.

Dodge has jumped back in the game with some new crate engines and the computer to run them. Also brought back the Charger and Challenger. Stuffing Hemi’s in lots of their cars, trucks, and SUV’s.

Lots of stuff to make your Mustang roll faster but not as much focus from Ford in the muscle car market and race market. Thus a lot of “Ford” race cars running Chevy engines. 5.0 mainly found only in the Mustangs the last two decades. Cars and trucks got the 4.6l and 5.4l engines. So not ton of spare parts to be scavenged off other ford vehicles. Many Mustangs got the wimpy v6 making the challenge for parts even worse.

So in 10 years you may be looking at a LS Swap as parts for our trucks dwindle. Or get freaky with a Tesla swap with solar panels for your bed and roof. But more likely many of us will evolve to PowerStrokes as we reach 400,000-500,000 miles or the parts just become too challenging to get. So milk that free waste oil as long as you can. Because paying $7 a gallon here sucks!

Nice car, drive it and enjoy it. We don’t take any of this with us in the end. I daily a 65 Cadillac.

Chevy people are the “normals”, everyone does an ls swap in everything cause it makes sense for a lot of reasons and are strong well supported engines. The weird people are the ones that are into a niche 900lb diesel boat anchor that makes 185hp/388tq. I’m still gonna swap an IDI into everything I can. Anyone can do an LS.

So I was at the in laws, helping them with their '93 idi I put a trans in, and it had this awful squealing noise, only when in motion. Jacked up the rear axle and put it in gear, only to find that the output shaft seal was squeaking on the driveline yoke! So I rubbed some Vaseline on it, and it's super quiet now.

Do you go on many jeep trails with your caddy, lol. I've never seen a winch on one of those. Kind of interesting....
