Today I played hookey from work and took a 400+ mile round trip to visit my (step) brother and his wife. This started out when a friend sent me a Facebook message about a three wheeler for sale (imagine that). Since it was only 8 miles from where they live and we all three grew up and went to school, I took the opportunity to make it a combination trip. This was the first time that I got to see the bar/restaurant that they bought last spring. I hadn't been inside there since the 1980's so I have no idea what they changed after they got it. I managed to get a picture of my (our) old high school (pardon the scratched passenger's side window) and I got a picture of her getting into her Explorer as I pulled up. I did eat lunch there, but I left as it was getting really busy by 12:15. It was nice to get to see them again (especially her since she's really easy to look at) and I got to drop off my niece's "did you really graduate from the 8th grade when you didn't even finish the school year?" presents.

Big Red has stayed busy moving things around. Mostly building supplies. Hauled a load of pine needles and pine junk away.

Moved a pop up camper for @pafixitman to help him out. He can fill in the rest of the story if he wants. LOL

Must have been karma because randomly my dome light started working again.

It worked when I put it all together. I’ve tried to fix it a couple times and couldn’t figure it out. Randomly it just starts working again. LOL
It's grounded through the screw that bolts it to the roof. That was where mine was having problems.

Took the old girl to get a e test today... Failed.. 40mph opacity was 42%.. need to clean the air filter and dose the tank heavy with diesel kleen I guess.. last year it was 20% the year before it was 7% year before that it was 16%. Made sure it was plenty hot and didn't sit too long before the test so kinda confused. Also the check engine light wouldn't shut off, my oil pressure gauge is erratic so it flickers off and on going to put a new sending unit in and that should take care of that for a while.

Hope it passes, not in a spot to buy something else or shell out money to get it fixed, plus I can't get a day off work so I don't have time either....

Is B20 or higher blend (diesel with 20% biodiesel) available near you? It will reduce smoke too.

Good news: I don’t have a bad wheel bearing.

bad news: I have bad everything else, and a bad wheel bearing 5,000 miles from now.

I went through all that last year. And the year before a little (truck had been sitting 4-5 years).

My best advise. Get all new springs and hardware when you do the brake shoes. And get very good brake shoes. I had one unweld itself (the metal frame part) which is why I was in there twice.

Have fun.

Yep. I got all new hardware, and centric premium shoes. Problem is, I can’t find anyone local who will resurface my OEM drums.

I had the same issue. Found one place wanted $90 to resurface them. Super steep. Not one of the self proclaimed "brake shops" around even had the proper tooling to do the work.

Recently the guy at O'reillys said they do it for $15-20 per drum. I haven't tried to get anything done but will look into it if the need arises.

Most places shelved or discarded the proper equipment because China makes drums and rotors so cheap. Most people won't spend $20 to resurface them because "a NEW one is only $40".... I was also told by a shop that typically by the time they resurface the cheapo new rotors they're already at the minimum usable spec.

Not sure how true that is, just repeating what I was told a couple years ago.

I can believe that. I had a guy tell me that Dodge use to put drums and rotors on new vehicles that were already right next to minimum spec so they'd have to be replaced at the first service. I have no info on the truthfulness of that, but again, I can believe it. Not just because it was Dodge either.
