Does anyone know the difference between the Dana 44 and 44HD? I don't know if the tag on the door will give me that info. I seen some parts on Bronco Graveyard and they seem specific to the model.

There is no clip under the boot. Remove the outer (smaller) clamp on the outside of the boot and the shaft will pull right out. Make sure to lubricate the splines when you put it back together.

Awesome thanks. Will give it a look tomorrow. Ordered a press on Amazon today. So I have a few days before I get on it. I need to do the rear brakes and axle seals, so that's where I'm going next.

As far as TTB goes, there's a coil-sprung 44 (5lug), leaf-sprung 44 (8lug; 3850#), and leaf-sprung 50 (8lug; 4600#). People like to call the 8 lug 44 "HD"... but there's nothing HD about it.

The actual 44HD is an old solid-axle (think F250 'highboy') with closed knuckles than uses the same oversize ujoints as the 50TTB.

Was curious. I have the leaf sprung 8 lug. I think the u joints were specific for the 44HD.

I see what you mean now.

The Spicer 5-760X joint is probably the most common Dana 30 & 44 ujoint. It doesn't fit the heavier-duty Dana 50ttb.

FWIW, I prefer to go with the Spicer catalogs (Ford D44 ttb section begins p.121)
