Today I went to change the right headlight assembly (broken top outer mounting tab, annoying bouncing beam). First I discovered my SO had given the keys to my handyman who is also my ex's son since he'd done some work while I was out of town. Couldn't find the spare keys anywhere. Got hold of him and learned that he'd borrowed his mother's car and left my truck keys in the console - and SHE was doing errands in town. Finally she showed up with the keys. cookoo

Moved the truck and took out the headlamp (which requires reaching two hidden nuts to remove the turn signal and bezel). Finally gave up and removed the right battery. That improves access a lot. Got it all apart and then noticed that those weirdly-shaped retaining clips were all missing. I know I was in there a couple years ago when I changed the cracked grille support. Maybe I didn't seat them properly or didn't have them since the nylon bushings were a tight fit in the support... :dunno

Anyhow they are readily available at both O'Reilly and Autozone, but I don't feel like running to town this evening (15-20 min each way). Guess I'll wait for the storm front to pass by during the night, and get them tomorrow!

Wherever you get them, check them out before you leave the store. The ones I got were so frikken thin you could easily bend them with the fingers and thumb of one hand.

If you haven't removed the support panel that the headlight clips TO with those clips. And you get the thin bendable clips, you'll NEVER get them back on.

Only reason I got mine back together is because I completely removed the grill, and trim, and then removed the entire panel that the headlights clip to.

Still I know that because those are so thin and bend so easily, I have to keep an eye on them. I know I am going to have to go in there and replace them again. Next time I'll have the thicker clips.

Got the headlight retaining clips at O'Reilly (had to go to both stores since each only had one pack of 2, Dorman 42190). They are fairly thin and soft metal, but slid firmly into place using needle nose pliers (I finally got to use my super-long pliers, on the bottom outer clip).
Didn't have to remove anything :dunno (Other than the battery, which really gets in the way).
Now once it gets dark I can see if my eyeball-aiming adjustment is close enough.:cool

Also bought another Motorcraft FL1995 oil filter for $9.99 since I had a $10 off coupon. Free is good :Thumbs Up

Well I confused the poor old girl today. The truck asked me "Why did we stop in this short tunnel?". I told it that it wasn't a tunnel, it was a car wash. Then it said "but I'm not a car. Why am I here?" Poor 'ol confused girl!:joker:
Now for the Paul Harvey version:
I had been carrying around a plastic container of 80/90 in my bed. A wiek or so back, my jack roller around and put a hole in the container. I finally couldn't stand the smell any longer so I went to a car wash. I bought a parts cleaning brush and dumped out what was left of an almost empty bottle of laundry detergent on the 80/90. I ran the foam brush over the rest of the truck and then washed out the bed. I washed the rest of the truck as well. I didn't get it perfect, but it's pretty close. At least I don't have to worry about putting something in the bad and getting that stinking 80/90 on it now!:Thumbs Up

If so, they didn't tell me. I kind of hope not, that car wash is right across the street from the Sheriff's department and only a block away from the City police department. Although there is this one lady City Cop that I wouldn't mind if she did a strip search on me.

I might be doing that soon. When things started cooling off I started getting an air intrusion problem (start, then die. Takes a little to get it fired up). Just did them a year or 2 ago so I'm thinking it might be something else. Putting that on my list: Son's wrangler power steering (have parts just lining up when), Wife's WK Jeep has a coolant leak at the water jacket in the timing cover (have to remove the timing cover to redo seals), my WJ Jeep is still being updated since we bought it (trans fluid, tuneup, tracking down some electrical shorts, valve cover gaskets, etc), both daughters cars are due for service. I'll get to it, just a matter of when. -Drool:fan:

I hear ya bro, I got too many irons in the fire. I'm in the middle of a house project (the literal middle, the old house is gone and the new one isn't there yet), a couple new guns I haven't even shot yet and a field full of trucks and several mountains of parts. Likewise, "a matter of when". :dunno:cheers:

Got a core injector to replace the one that grenaded on the trip to Wes' place. Got it for the price of shipping so I can't complain. I only need it to keep water out of the spare engine until I get back to it so it doesn't need to be special but I'm hoping to drive the truck to the garage so usable would be nice.

The threads were boogered up, looked like it had been dropped. I disassembled it to keep it clean and ran a 45 degree bit into the end to round it back up and ground off the bad thread. Sprayed it out good with brakleen and put it back together. Should work good enough to move the truck 30 feet!
