The problem with the ATS 085 in a van chassis boils down to these problems:

1) The ATS 085 lid has the intake pointing towards the driver's side. On van's, the cold air intake is on the passenger side
2) You can't reverse the lid to point towards the passenger side because of the engine placement vs the engine tunnel
3) Even if you could reverse the lid and had enough room on the passenger side, would there be enough room to get in and out due to the engine tunnel roof area?
4) It has a retaining ring that holds down the air filer instead of the air box lid instead of a lid, pulling in hot air from the engine compartment.

I have thought about trying to run flexible tubing from the intake box at the grill to the top of the filter to give it at least SOME cold air, but it's a low priority over other stuff it needs. (Other users are probably sick of me mentioning this by now... so I guess I should stop)

I would be interested to see the setup you have.

Here’s what pictures I have. Like I said, I have a Hypermax hood vent intake, so it’s nothing like the oem solution. I get cold air from directly in front of the windshield.

I wish motorhomes were made on the F chassis. :(
You could make one if you really wanted it bad enough. Find an old U-Haul truck and swap the camper part over. It would be a lot of work though. It may be easier to just convert the U-Haul box.

Best oil? Anything that says oil on the bottle will work fine for an idi. These engines don’t care what you dump in them as long as it looks, smells, & tastes like oil lol.
Run chevron delo 15w-40 in my 6.7psd, and also run the same oil in my klr650. It doesn’t burn off like Rotella, and all the farmers I know run delo in just about everything they own.
KLR650. I love that bike. Big thumper. Surprised your not running 20/50

Bought it new from dealership a few months ago. Been tons of fun!
Been doing well with the delo so I might just stick with it.

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
I remember back in '90 when Bessie was first new the trucks glovebox book called for 30wt CD or 30wt SF. Oils have changed lots thru the yrs, but I still remember those 1990 specs.

I now have a '94 IDIT in Bessie & run 15/40 or 30 wt Walmart, Shell, Mobil Delvac, which ever is the cheapest or most handy or convenient & have good results & average usage/leakage with them. Like I say I still remember those 1990 specs.

Few yr ago I left out about 2AM one morn to go firewood cutting in ******, my '92 NA IDI in a big hurry. Few mi down road I heard some noisey ticking. Looked at my manual gage & it showed low. Cked oil & no oil on dipstick, no extra oil with me. Ended up adding about 1 1/2 gal chainsaw bar oil..... about 2 wks before I could get her changed. ****** still going.

However I don't recommend running chainsaw bar oil, just saying.
(someday I'll get things together & start doing everything correctly....sigh LOL LOL )

Bar oil. That's awesome.
I think I'm going to go with Dello 15w40. Walmart has it on sale for $11 a gallon.

Chainsaw bar oil is 30wt. Probably won't hurt anything

Yeah I thought about that but I don't see it as a high priority. Too much modding. It blocks the oil filler and both dipsticks too, I see.

Is the filter in backwards? The screen usually goes towards the engine side.

Don’t think so. Filter wouldn’t fit in the housing that way. It does block the dipsticks, but it bolts on with two wing nuts, so removal is very easy.

That's also my biggest retro-wish for my van. Keep the front the same as the truck. The van design is a pain in the service bay. But I need the van cargo design. Why the hell did Ford not use their F front end for the van?
