It's just another type of insurance. Some people use it quite often, others never need it. If you need it, it's great. Otherwise, giving them all of that money gets to be frustrating.
The other part is we pay for Car/truck insurance, then never get in a wreck for 20 years or what ever. On the 86 we just carry liability Insurance. But it is there for just incase.
For the ERS, I have used it a few times. Like when DA here left his lights on one cold wintery night in Carson City at a Casino.
Another time making a left turn out of the Left turn lane and L/F went flat. DA didn`t have his jack with him. On that one had the guy tow me home 6 miles on his flat bed.
The one big life saver think was 2008 driving back from Salt Lake City to Santa Cruz. Zooming along east of Winnemucca, NV. WB
I-80, said to my Wife, "what`s that noise"? at first sounded like the Playing card we use to put on the Spokes of our Bicycles with a Close Pin. Pulled over and stopped, so did the the Engine.
We were like in the middle of no where.
This was our 85 300D turbo Diesel.
Older Gentleman with a new Dodge Cummins picked us up and took us to town and dropped us off at the AAA yard. He even waited around to see if we were ok and didn`t need additional help.
Rode the 40 miles back to the car and loaded it up, and back. Dropped it off with all the other wrecks in the yard.
There was even an truck with a tree growing up through the Frame.
The local U-Haul guy was no help, rented Box Trailers and Screw Drivers I guess.
Called the U-Haul in Reno and they had one Trailer and a truck to pull it. Rented a car and drove 180 miles to Reno and back. The guy said when you get back, just fill the tank and leave the key on top of the L/F tire.
Picked up a Come-along, backed up to the Car, pulled out the ramps. let`s see it will start. BANG< BANG <BANG, guess not.
By this time it dropped from 109 deg
(this was July 4th) to 106 at 6pm. (Dry Heat).
U`Haul only gives you 2 straps for the front wheels and a little Chain for the rear axle with an "S" Hook. Stopped at an auto supply for a ratchet Strap, Girl comes out, "we just closed and counted the money" But can I help?
She called her Husband to bring down a Ratchet Strap, they were Hot Rod people. Paid them $20. and off we went.

Nevada that will go out of their way to help.
The AAA Garage didn`t even charge our card. It was an old shop. and guy that was owner was maybe in his 80`s, and glad to get us going, or maybe July 4th?
Hauled it back home the 500 miles or so. That was the start of my DIY Mercedes mechanic work.
I think what happened, the bearing in the Vacuum Pump came apart, balls dropped down in the Timing Chain. (Interference Engine) broke the Cam Shaft and 2 Rocker Towers, Valve Cover
and some other goodies down inside.
Best thing about these 6.9/7.3 IDI Engines, it`s all gear driven.
