Just pulled into the shop. Truck drove just under 2k miles this week and has been flawless, got 21 mpg on this last leg of the journey! Making killer time passing everything in site, I’ll dig into the water leak issue sometime this week but convinced at this point it’s gotta be wp related. The truck has coolant in it but not near 50/50, just enough for my climate zone. The whole undercarriage of the truck was coated in ice from all the moisture from the day before, so I don’t think the chunk of ice was from the coolant leak completely. I love my IDIs, hopefully be giving the shop truck some attention soon, I think this water leak is just to spite from jealousy.
How do you get that kind of MPGs , 15 is about the best I can get, elevation might have a little to do with it, 3500 and better here.

Haha yep, I’ve been running it with the least amount of coolant necessary to hopefully build up a good amount of crud in the cooling system. I’m doing this for an upcoming test with a coolant filter that should display the effectiveness of a coolant filter on a dirty cooling system.
When I got my truck the coolant was brown. I did a flush with distilled water and the Preston cleaner multiple times until I saw nothing but clean water coming out. I installed my uncharged filter with no bypass and fresh coolant on a Sunday night and had a cold ride to work the following Monday. That’s how fast it clogged right after a thorough flush lol.

What test are you running?

My first coolant filter install (no flush) I did same thing & no heater! Realized that I needed my coolant filter on a by-pass, so I fixed it. Heater went to working, nothing clogged.

The water pump has a weep hole that drains coolant that gets past the seal. I have had two Motorcraft pumps fail that way. With no fan it should be easy to check. With my block heater plugged in the coolant pressurizes enough to eventually start showing at the weep hole.

Really? Dang. That woulda been my first thought. That's were I've had every leak from on any vehicle I've ever owned, aside from the head gasket. So is it the gasket do u think?

Mostly it’s just an empty truck with nothing but highway miles. Slowest highway was 70 mph, and easily going a hundred miles without using the brakes. With the 3.55 and zf it’s got the best combo for mpg, and with tweaking and tuning the stock pump to perfection I’ve gotten a lot of mpg there. On trips I set my light load advance cam pretty late so that it stays more advanced under light load.
