If the connector is fully plugged into the FICM, it is hard for me to believe that all of the wires in that harness are having issues. I guess it could happen.

It’s plugged back in now we pulled it back off and I messed with it so we’re back to the original over fueling and backfiring problem

Well said Crawler.

OP - every mechanic I know has a spare (known to be good) FICM to use for testing. It is about the only way to identify a FICM w/ a bad logic board (ie install one known to be good and see if it resolves the issues).

That said, most individuals aren't going to have one. In that case, the best thing to do is to send your FICM in to a reputable/honest shop for it to be tested.

For that I recommend FICMrepair.com.

Shortcuts when troubleshooting can cost you a LOT of money.
We have put a good ficm on it it can off a running truck

If it’s in the harness then the FICM won’t change anything.

The low voltage pre FICM is not good. We’ve brought this up and it needs to be addressed.

Right now you just have to chase one issue down at a time.
The low voltage only happens after cranking for a bit.but where would I check that at? That very well could also be my battery’s I can’t remember if it does it when I hook the jumper cables up to it or not but here latley I just throw 2 sets of cables on it cause it’s takin so much to get it started

Just to weigh in a bit here, been reading and learning too. To me it sounds like an issue with the ficm harness connector, I’ve had similar issues with the dt466e engines. I would ohm out the harness, but if you got another one coming already...

I keep a spare new harness around for this reason. I have the connectors for the end of the harness as well. But by the time I charge $30+ for a connector and labor to swap the pins over, it’s almost as much as a new factory harness. I keep the plugs around in case I break a clip on one while doing work. Then it’s on me to fix it properly. Way too many shops just jam it back in and leave the mess for the owner to find way later.

You’re absolutely correct.

It’s unfortunate that we lost Ron. His FICMs treated many people very well too.

Load test the battery’s. Then check the alternator. After that it becomes a lot of chasing and looking usually.

Battery’s are the most likely reason. But a weak alternator isn’t uncommon.

The alternator showed to be chargin at 13.5 or so atleast on the scan tool. I can’t remember if the other ficm dropped Voltage when I was starting it or not.i do remember though that the voltage while running was actually better then mine but only like a volt higher I think it sat around 49 where mine sits at 47-48

I’m not concerned about the voltage output of the FICM. I’m concerned about the low input to the FICM and ECM.

Keep in mind you’re asking the FICM to take the incoming voltage and push it up to 48v. Starting with lower than normal voltage, the FICM has to work harder to make the numbers.

I’ll try an load test them batteries tomorrow I figure there the culprit cause it didn’t start dropin that much till it had been cranked on a bunch when I had the hot start issue

Make sure you disconnect the batteries. That way you can isolate them and load test them individually rather than as a system. If one is bad and one is good, then it may not fail a load test if they are wired together.

Also if you replace one, it’s advised to replace the other.

Oh ya I always replace both batteries lol I’m used to the whole routine of replacing both at once with all the equipment I’ve got

Odd I replied to this thread yesterday. But it isn’t showing on my end.

Have you had a chance to load test the batteries?

Did you install your new harness?
