Other than catching up maintenance on a new to you truck is there a reason you are thinking about replacing these items? The CDR valve gets blamed for a lot of things it cannot do. As for the added part it could actually be a great idea....

The added part at the valve cover could be a great idea because on the Hypermax set up I believe there is no baffle in the valve cover where the breather was retrofitted. So oil mist from the rockers can go out with the blow by. That little can inserted in the valve cover would help separate the oil droplets from the blowby. It resembles the small block Dodge but Olds had one that looked like that I think maybe even the 350 diesel had them.
I’d leave it there if there isn’t an issue.
