Replaced injection pump and old one was still good… where should I look next.

Hey everyone,

I’m new here and am in need of help. My 1990 7.3idi had been running strong and then quit in idle and wouldn’t restart. Cracked an injection line and no fuel was coming out. So I went the cheap way and swapped my lift pump. I got fuel coming to the tower and into the IP but still nothing, so I replaced the pump. Well, turns out the old pump is fine. And the new pump is fine. Just tested the solenoids for fuel return and fuel shut off on both and both are spinning with the proper motions internally… but I’m still not getting fuel. Just did a ground out test off the batteries and my engine is saying there is not ground out. Any ideas out there?

So to verify, you made sure the fuel shutoff solenoid is clicking when you manually supply power to it? It is an on/off solenoid, there shouldnt be any spinning when power is applied.

I took it to mean that the IPs are both spinning.

I would check to make sure that you are actually getting power to the solenoid while the key is on. Another thing you can do is to run a jumper wire from a positive battery post to the spade the powers the solenoid, bypassing the factory wiring. If it puts fuel to the injectors that way, you know that there's some type of wiring problem.

Are you saying you have no ground circuit to the engine? If that is correct then I would check your ground cables where they bolt to the block. At least on mine there is a cable off each battery. Make sure where they bolt to the block that they are clean and tight. Make sure that the battery ends are good. Twist the ends around some and make sure they are not bad.

Op proofread your post as if I posted it to you.
If you have ground, then power is the issue.
Detail your rigs specs in you sig line so we see what were working on.

Also hit the stickies.
On a side note, an ip witt 100k on it is suspect, just cuz the squirt doesn't make them "good" .

Thanks everyone for the replies! I’m going to run a bypass suggested above and make sure the grounds are clean and see if that gets the pump working. Then I’ll know I need to hunt a wire down.
