Figured I'd report back my new mpg's with my van with the new IP, to show the difference it really does make!

With my old pump, I was getting at best 13mpg. Average was 11.5.

Here are my results from last weekend.

9 hour drive each way. 1800km (1200 miles) in 2 days.

16.8 MPG
15.1 MPG
15.5 MPG
16.7 MPG
16.8 MPG
16.4 MPG
14.9 MPG
14.1 MPG

That's with my '85 Extended E350 cargo van, 6.9L non turbo, C6, 4.10's.

I was doing ~60mph the whole trip!

With this setup. The van and empty trailer are around 8100lbs according to a scrap yard scale.

And FYI, these seats are NOT the greatest for long trips!....Neither is my gearing with the C6, was revving so high, I couldn't even hear my AM radio

And on my way back (and yes I drove 1200 miles to go get an old camper cap, 4 hubcaps and a bug deflector ) at the same time I dropped in at an old friends place.

And here she be, on my winter truck!

You did head gaskets lately, right??
Do you think that helped with mpg??

I really don't know if it helped or not, I did the pump and head gaskets at the same time.

The head gaskets were leaking oil, witch is why I had to replace 'em.

Nice mileage with the setup. Surely a Gear Vendors will fix those numbers..

A GV or even 3.55's would make a big difference on at least the cab noise if not the MPG's! I've clicked mine out of OD a few times, or have been doing 50 MPH in 4x4 (so I can't use the gear vendor) and couldn't imagine running that long at 2700 rpm+! Did you wear ear plugs? Did you do a total trip average (ie, total miles divided by total gallons)?

This makes me super excited to replace my pump and get things timed up. Congrats John!

Funny thing is, nothing has been timed up yet as I forgot to say.

All I did was line up the timing marks on top of the IP, and gear housing, that's it. Been running it like that since. But judging from the sound and clatter from the engine, it sounds pretty much right on the button!

And no LOL didn't wear ear plugs, one things for sure, it sure did keep me wide awake!

The longest I drove for non stop was 4 hours, after that, I dunno what hurted more, my lower back, or my ears, so I stopped in at a truck stop, fuel up, walk around and get my hearing back.

The gear vendors will be worth more than the van! I'm thinking of a ZF5 when I find one cheap. It's one of those long terms not so important projects.

I have all the pieces to convert a van to standard already, all I'd need is a tranny. I do have that to, but it's for a small block.
