Here’s my crapped out 1986 Ford F250 ECLB, 6.9L IDI, T-19 4-speed manual, Twin Traction Beam 4WD. Hope to do some extensive body work, get rid of all the rust and replace some body panels, and then repaint it. Needs a bit of mechanical persuasion, hope to get it running good, it has 131,000 miles on it.

Here’s my 89 F-250. I bought it from some real-life hillbillies in Kentucky that lived without running water. It had a 450 gallon water tank in the bed all the time, and they used it to keep the house supplied with water. Amazing that it could get up their steep unpaved hill with 3500lb+ in the bed year-round!
Why did they sell you their water tower? Did they get a bigger truck with a larger tank?

I literally have this vision of a hillbilly family putting the cart ahead of the horse as their “water-go-getter” just left while their tank sits on the ground!!! Blinking of course

Call me a hillbilly if you want. I do the same thing. I don't have water unless I haul it in.

My 91 has the 450 gallon tank in it.

And it does just fine hauling that tank of water up and down my two miles of gravel road, and up and down my 32 degree and greater incline, gravel driveway!

back in the IDI game. Scored this '88 f250 with the 7.3 and ZF5 with a Banks sidewinder kit. farm truck so it's a bit tired runs and drives straight though. pretty big oil cooler leak, and on the way home to oil pressure guage started acting up - thinking the pressure relief valve is sticking.

Ok here is my 1985... extended crew cab dually ATS turbo, 4spd 2wd. First pic is when I first picked her up, destroyed front clip to include rad support, radiator, original doors stolen, steering column, guage cluster, and pedal assy missing. Second and third pics are yesterday after rolling outta the shop. Now looking better, zf5 swap, Dana 60 under front-end, SKY manufacturing shackle reversal kit to hang the Dana 60 from and 1356 t-case.

New here. After spending endless hours talking, reading and dreaming about THE diesel to pursue.
Bought it in March of 2017.From the grandson of the old timer who tied all the era bells and whistles on her. Blew head gasket 10 miles down the road. Got a shop to give a quote to get it in road, 16k for a rebuild. Plus, split gear shot, radiator shot.
Researched here on Oilburners found out about R&D. Saved $, put in the order with Justin.
Meanwhile shop said throw out bearing housing was toast, recommended rebuild tranny. Saved $. Read up on this website. Saved.
All the side work done, Mishimoto radiator, single mass clutch, rebuilt tranny, R&D rebuilt Turbo, new drive shaft (split gear rebuild quote 2500, nope) flex pipe hadn't been installed, receive engine.
Install, get a call works done, but bad news, block is cracked.
Puked in my mouth. Talked to R&D, he paid for pull and shipping, had stopped magnafluxing with 6.9. couldn't believe it, but followed through with warranty, thankfully. That fella took a loss on this project. Sat.
Shop was annoyed cause it wasn't their work, I was a strong 8K in with them. I learned the art of haggling, cause this was turning into a pit.
Finally got "new" engine back, shop threw it in and job complete 31 months after original purchase. Rolled coal Oct. 2019.
Learned a lot about patience and savings. Watched buddies buying PSD and Cummins around me. Obviously went way deeper than I wanted, but aside from oil changes and tightening some bolts (second drop in seemed expedited) she's my regular driver when the roads aren't slicker than snot. Overall I live with no regrets, old technology, greatest era of US craftsmanship. I'll drive it till I ride it as my hearse.

Nice engine, I remember a long time ago wanting a diesel and the only cheap ones were IDIs. YouTubed them and was like, they sound very cool. Rest is history. Welcome.
