So apparently my Brother in law is under the weather and their vacation was supposed to start yesterday. I got a call from his girlfriend asking if I could run the camper over yesterday after work and I told her I'd be happy to. Worst part about the trip was the need to block the entire road to hook up to the camper parked in their front yard.....

I'm a little jealous. It's a beautiful weekend for it. Diego didn't miss a beat. Thermostat is still stuck open so I had the grille blanket on and I bet that got me some weird looks being 70 degrees out It was maybe 20mi round trip. Actually was running about normal temperature when moving. Idling around the park it cooled right down. Hopefully I can get that changed out soon.

Well, my truck is just too loud for my tastes. It’s a small open flow muffler, so it doesn’t change the sound much, just makes it a little quieter.

But engine noise is the real killer in that truck, needs more/better cab insulation…

Hi gang! Been out of the loop forever, life just keeps getting in the way.
Once in a while I do a bit of lurking...
I do miss this great community and all of it's sometimes eccentric denizens!
So, what did I do with my truck Raylan aka "Project Saburai" today?
Well, unfortunately, due to many reasons I've decided with a heavy heart, ive got to sell Him. Mostly because I don't have the needed shop or the time to get him road worthy any time soon, of course there’s the money issue. The truck still starts and runs but has abruptly developed some major blow by. And as it comes up to temperature, it quits and will not start again until it cools down. I've done nothing to diagnose it since it's more than likely that whatever the problem is, the engine will have to be pulled and I don't have the facilities to do so. ARP studs, so pulling the heads in the engine in is a non starter.
We're hemorrhaging $$ rebuilding this old house and I've got to sell him. Any of you guys remember the build thread that Wes started?

Well couple days behind on this, but finally making a thread for a project I am working on for @saburai This man recently purchased a rust free 94 f250 ex cab 4x4 idit e40d out of Pagosa springs Colorado. He flew out to buy the truck, and drove it down to me in Texas to work on the truck...

He's been sitting under a old poll barn for about a year and a half. Every two or three weeks, I'll fire him up and drive him back and forth for a few yards, then I'll operate all the systems to keep them functional and shut it down. This sucks, I really love this truck...

Shame you need to see your truck, Probably needs new IP with it hard to start hot etc...
just read through your first page of your project thread. You put some work into it.
Hate to see anyone sell their IDI truck, then later egret selling it....dang, should have never sold it.

Hi Goat! Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure that the IP isn't the problem. The pump is still a relatively fresh baby moose from Mel at Conestoga. It dies when it starts to come up to temp, no where near what I'd consider hot. It started doing it the same day the blow by started. I failed to mention that the exhaust smoke increased as well. I'm not going to sell it for a song. Engine tear down or not, it's an awesome IDI and I'm positive that I'll regret selling it.

Well I sure read your first post wrong. I thought that the blow by stops when the engine gets warm and then starts again when it cools off. I didn't read it as the engine stops running.
It sounds to me like, somehow, the FSS power wire got switched around with the timing advance wire. If that happens, the FSS will lose power when the fast idle shuts off-when the engine starts to come up to temperature. It's really easy to do that with the GM 6.2/6.5s. Not so much with the 6.9/7.3s because of the way their wires lay out. It's not impossible, just more difficult to do.

Definitely a lot more room in there now. Wish the flange wasn't so sharp, but it's not like my hand will be in there regularly.


Also, I shouldn't be allowed to weld.
My tig welder ran out of gas, so looks like poo but it's holding... For now. I hate welding upside down.

No I purchased the flange and down pipe from CDD, they were the only ones who could have it out fast enough for my timeframe I'm working with.

My welding skills are definitely sub par, but they usually look way better when I have bottle of shielding gas, then I can at least make a decent one.
I may take it to an exhaust shop someday to have it done better, maybe add a flex pipe.


On another note, installed my super hitch, super camper tie downs, and testing fitness of my truss extension

I didnt include it in the photo, but it has stabilizer chains with turnbuckles to tension them to keep it straight. Its rated for 6000 lbs trailer/600lbs tongue weight

Plus its an upgrade from the original hitch extension I had, which was just a single tube with no stabilizer chains.

For now its to flat tow my samurai, and someday get another boat.

I've towed enclosed trailers for about 17 years now and I've always wondered what those double tube receivers were for... finally you've shed light on that for me! Shoot that's a long lever. I have an 18" single tube extension for the 9ft cabover camper in my avatar. Yours looks about 3ft in that picture!

Exactly. I'm sure they have to do something before they can sell them to get them certified or whatever but all I see is a huge lever and it doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling!

@Nero I would love a picture of whatever that brace underneath it is. I've seen them with the chains on them and that's fine but it's the length and leverage that have always concerned me. Wouldn't bother me at all if there was something going equally far in front to offset the torque load on the hitch.
