That is a surprisingly small amount of threads needed for those fittings.
I always laugh when people freak out about the level of rust we deal with. Someday I want to move south and work on all the trucks they think are rusty down there, it'd be a walk in the park after the crap people daily drive up here!
I loved these mirrors and would NOT even consider changing them. I towed with them and they worked very nicely. I did have to add a flat 3 inch 1/8 inch bar to extend them when I was towing something that was wide.
I love the style of them. The factory ones are a lot beefier and put the mirrors higher and farther out than these tin and plastic cheapos. The brackets are all rusted up tho, gonna sand em and have them re-chromed at some point when I stop throwing money at stuff it actually needs.

Mine did the same thing. Sanded them down, then applied a "chrome" powder coat and baked them. Looks good and has held up for 5 years now.
