Put the old known working IP back in the IDI. It fired up as expected. Moved it out to the front of the yard beside the Avenger and travel trailer. Was nice to hear it come to life again. Need a real shop so I can pull the motor and start the process of refreshing is so it can be reborn as a turbo powered 6.9!

well today, i messed up another door!
the rear, rear driverside door had a bad striker with the nylon missing.
i purchased another one from e-bay.
i went out to install it.
i tightened it down too far in. now the damn door wont open!

but i did get my new electric window regulators in, so i can fix the previously messed up door!

Edit: damn plastic on the striker is too thick.
got it to open, spent 30 min adjusting it,
it would still stick.
junked the new one, installed the old one.
time to get one from a junkyard.

Strikers at auto stores are too thick... you need to get them down (details below)

Today I cursed the inventor of drum brakes... I hope mechanic hell is taking care of him.

If you have a lathe, nylon actually machines pretty nice. You can also squeeze it on a bolt and chuck it up on a drill press and take a rasp to it. Poor mans lathe. I've done that type of things several times now that I don't have a full shop at work anymore. [emoji22]

The typical 4 pack of striker bushings in auto parts stores that says late model Ford are meant for expeditions and broncos... per the manufacturer's website.

7/8" long, 11/16" OD, 1/2" ID is what our trucks call for. They can be found in bulk online.

Reduce diameter of the parts-store bushings from .740 to .6875 and check for fit.

Yeah yeah yeah.... thats just the decimal equivalent of 11/16"... my tolerance on a belt sander is rubbish, so a thou or fifteen should be plenty
