As for the precups I've read many times that if the cracks aren't past the fire ring that it's ok to run them. YMMV and I haven't built an IDI myself, just passing along info. IIRC that recommendation is from Ford or IH.

Does anyone have instructions or a right up for removing and reinstalling an IP without changing the timing? I like my timing but I need to pull the IP to change the valley pan.

I've always indexed it with a drift punch or a paint pen in a few spots.

I just use my pocket knife to make a scratch across the pump and gear housing a half inch or so to the side of the static mark.

Are you asking how to remove the IP? You have to pull the inspection cover and remove the shaft bolts

You got it. To be technical it’s the three “12 pt” bolts that hold the ip flange to the drive gear. You won’t miss it once you remove the inspection cover.

No, no RTV. The head studs are intended to be used with fastener assembly lube though.

I have yet to tear into one of these engines. Does the idi have roller lifters? I just noticed the spider and dog bones in captaim720's picture.
