Good morning. I'm looking at a 1995 PSD ZF5 donor truck, as a parts source for my 1990. My concerns are: 1) Will I be able to use the ZF5 and transfer case without issues? 2) Can I use any or all of the turbo setup on my IDI? 3) Will the front and rear leaf springs mount to the shackles on the 1990? Any advice on these concerns is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the ZF will work, but you may need a new flywheel and clutch.

the turbo set up will work if you fabricate a new pedestal, up pipes, and a down pipe. welding required.

i believe you will need to get a shackle reverse kit to run the SD springs.

I have a ZF in my 990 2WD 7.3(light tail shaft), so I can use the flywheel and clutch from there. I was considering the front D60 under my 1990 F250 extended cab project.

My project is the 1990 F250 in my sig. It has an E4OD. I want the ZF5 and transfer case out of the '95. And the Alcoa's. If I can use the springs for extra clearance, I may consider the D60 swap as well.

If you can me a pre-1991 IDI F350 4X4 with extended cab and single rear axle, I'll start with that. I've never seen a stock one built that way.

I have never found an '87-91 F350 extended cab 4X4 7.3 ZF5. Crew cab yes. Owning and driving an IDI is where daring to be different pays. Any help is appreciated.

You may not have a hook up for your speedo with the 1995 setup. Take a look first.

That would be a problem. With the introduction of the PSD, was 94-95 a transition year for many of the mechanicals. I guess that makes sense. Even with the ATS, '94 and earlier should be compatible with any 7.3 IDI??

I want to say 1993 was the year they went to a electronic speedo, but I am not positive about that. You can still get the truck, the speedo goes into the transfer case. So all you have to do is get another transfer case, they all bolt up to the tranny the same way, but you do have to watch out for the output shaft type and the shifter linkage.

You may do some research, maybe you could pull the tailshaft housing, install a gear, and install a older tailshaft housing to convert it. I am not positive about that either though.

The introduction of the OBS in 92 was the full electronic speedometer off the VSS in the rear diff. The 87-91 Bricknose and the 80-86 Slantnose use a mechanical speedometer. The one odd exception is the E4OD Bricknose trucks have a mechanical speedometer, but they also have a VSS that plugs into the transmission/transfercase, and the speedo cable connects to it. This is how the E4OD gets its VSS signal for the computer in the early trucks.....

As for the 95, the axles and springs should swap over... since they are not a 99+ truck......

What Snicklas said. He's right on. Regarding the PSD turbo on the IDI I'd forget about it. Sell the Powerstroke core to someone. If you want to fab a turbo kit there are better turbo's to fab it around vs the powerstroke turbo.
